Who's applying ED to Penn?

Love to read this thread everyday. It’s very positive and encouraging. I also applied ED to Wharton. Had a couple of questions.
Do most people here have a SAT score of 2300+? My score is 2290. I know it depends on a number of factors other than scores. But I’m wondering about my chances based on my score.
Also, what does the admission committee give more importance to? The Upenn essays or the common app essays?

Hey Shiver555- We don’t like doing stats on here, we decided we don’t want to freak people out even more. So ask for chances on a separate chance forum. But it’s lovely to get a new contributor and I’m pretty sure “Why Penn” is the most important, via an info session I attended. Sorry for the sass, but we’re trying not to upset anyone else… :)

@ OOquanta
Wow really? This late for an interview?
I wonder if I ll get one too then

@EmPaige21- Thanks for your reply. I fully understand. Those chance me threads are so indimidating, and all you folks are so so smart. I guess there is no point in creating a chance me thread for Upenn as I already applied ED. So I’ll just hang on and keep hoping for the best.

Also, does anyone know if all the applications go in front of the comittee or do the regional admission counselors shortlist them based on their initial review?

Per an interview of Admissions Dean Furda in February 2010, they don’t all go before a committee (there is more than one committee):

[Q&A with Eric J. Furda | Penn Current](http://www.upenn.edu/pennnews/current/node/3496)

That whole interview is an interesting–and informative–read.

in that one video that someone posted a while ago, Eric Furda said that apps won’t go to committee if they’re obvious rejections and sometimes apps don’t go to committee because they are obvious acceptances

but all of them still get seen by at least two people

I think? haha

^ Yep, he did say that (as did several of the other admissions deans). The implication in that video, and in the interview answer I posted above, is that only the close decisions go to the committees (i.e., a significant number of applications are accepted or rejected without ever going before a committee).

Incidentally, Furda also said in the interview to which I linked above (in post #1025) that they try to have the class completely “sculpted” by 3-4 days before the decisions are released. Accordingly, my guess is that those committees are hard at work at this very moment (with D-Day only 8 days away).

Spine-chills, anyone? :)

definitely 45 Percenter!

I just logged in to my penn portal account and there’s a message there saying we cannot check the status of our materials…scarrryyy

also, i feel like there’s an error on the Penn Incoming Class profile page. I’m sure you guys know the page I’m talking about…
[Penn Admissions: Incoming Class Profile](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/profile/)

if you go down to the multicultural background section, the first column says number enrolled and the second column says percent of US citizens.
shouldn’t the second column say “Percent of incoming class” ???

^ Read the line just below the table:

E.g., multicultural stats are not provided for international students, so the percentages given are just of U.S. citizens (and Permanent Residents) in the class.

If the Early Decision cycle for this year has been closed already, everything’s been decided already, right?

^ See post #1028, above. They might still be making decisions in committees, but are no longer accepting/collating materials, etc.

oh…woooops!

Very interesting article. So where does the feedback of our interviewer go? To the regional admissions officer? And there is a possibility he uses that feedback to make the decision, and it is not reviewed further by the committee.

Hi everyone. I love you all :). Just joined the forum…i’ve read just about every post on here. As I impatiently wait for the outcome of my efforts, I have one thing to say…seven days twenty three hours and fifty eight minutes.

I just got the e-mail with the directions for the decision day!!! I am freaking out and I can not wait!!!

:( why didn’t they send it to me…The smallest things are freaking me out right now.

I don’t think Penn sends out emails in three piles for those accepted, deferred, and rejected.
There were quite a lot of people last year who didn’t receive one until Dec 2 evening.

Me neither…don’t worry 4000+emails takes a while

what’s this video that everyone is referring to?
