Not even a little bit.

hey guys, do you know if Penn has like a quota or so for international students?

I really really wish they posted more info about the school of nursing ![]()
even a couple hours of googling isn’t helping

Only one more week. I don’t think i can do this… -.-
I can feel depression coming along … :

@IhearPW: If you are applying for financial aid and are an international student, then yes, there is a quota.

@IHeartPW: Penn is needblind for North Americans (including Canada and Mexico).

^No, they generally base decisions individually. The fact that he may be applying is probably NOT going to be a significant consideration factor for the admissions committee. So don’t worry :)

Actually, when I went to informational meetings for colleges like Penn and Duke, the representatives told my parents that my chances of getting in would be very greatly diminished if I would apply for financial aid.

…That’s why I’m an international non-financial aid candidate.

@Aloice - But do you NEED financial aid? Will you be financially okay if you got in and decided to attend?

@sweetcookie - my family’s financial situation is such that I can at least get through four years of undergrad Penn without financial aid (my dad currently makes around 160k a year in Houston). If I decide to do pre-med or go to grad school without any kind of financial backing (grants, scholarships, whatever), though, it will be difficult. That’s one reason I should be kinda chill with this Penn decision - I’ve already been accepted into UT Austin’s school of business and that’s probably a lot better moneywise.

So are you an international living in the U.S.? Where are you originally from?

I’m mainland Chinese. Lived in China for 11 years, Brunei for 4 and finished off 3 years of high school in Houston.

Chinese nationality?
yay! more internationals living in the u.s. who are applying to Penn
I always thought there was a dearth of them on CC

Oh, are you one too?

I actually wish there aren’t that many people like that since they are strong competitors. Applicants in China tend to have not-so-great English scores so I at least still have an edge over them, but internationals in the US… ugh.

I’m Chinese by ethnicity, Canadian by nationality.
Canadians aren’t as disadvantages as other internationals. I like to think Penn treats them like homebuddies. =)
I also have pretty strong CR and Writing scores, but it’s not likely that Penn will be super impressed considering I spent basically my whole life in English speaking countries.

so…DECEMBER 9th at 5PM is gonna be D-day.

^Yes, you should’ve received an email informing you so.

yeah i did lol i just haven’t been on CC in a few days…

@sweetcookie: I had six years to learn English. I’m pretty happy that I’ve been able to turn my English grade from an F to an A+, but I could honestly do better and I only made a 740 on CR so that’s that.

@Aloice - That’s an amazing accomplishment. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.
Which part of China are you from?
