Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

rolemodel i think you have great extracurriculars, you have as good a chance of getting in as any of us. i agree with serendipityxt that we should keep in touch if we are accepted to cornell. Where are you guys from by the way? Though i’m at Berkeley, i’m actually an international student.

I’ll agree, California does have the best collegiate system in America.

I’m gonna say Massachusetts has got its fair share. MIT, Tufts, Harvard, Amherst, Boston U, Boston College, blah, blah…
But I <3 NY =).

yes, california does dominate. The UC system is easily the best public college system in the country. and even the privates are incredible. Who can argue with the UC system plus usc, cal tech, and um…lets see…what am i forgetting…oh yeah, STANFORD! cali dominates no questions asked.

Cali is awesome…but I feel like, as much as I want to live and be there, I’d miss the comfort and originality of NY. But I guess I can agree their schools trump ours (state schools) But we dooo have Syracuse, Stony Brook, Cornell, NYU, Colgate…it’s pretty good.

^^^and Columbia

Oh yeah! I always forget Columbia. Dude, we have two Ivy Leagues…but Cornell isn’t about the prestige ;)

And Azu, I’ll read and review your essays when you finish! I think it’s great you have your counselor this time around, that should go well.

Hey neat, I just wiki’d Cornell, we’re the biggest Ivy by a good 3,600 over Penn.

I’ll fight you to the death about California having better schools than New York, Water

(Nobody mention that I’m attempting to leave California in order to attend a school in New York)

Don’t mention that to the other ivy-leaguers. That’s just another reason for them to say that Cornell is arguably the least prestigious ivy.

insert rolling eyes smiley here

Hardly…we just have the widest selection of AWESOME majors/classes/people.

i hate that people say cornell is the reject of the ivies. first of all, dartmouth and brown are ranked behind us. second, cornell is an awesome school that tons of people would die to go to. you won’t find that education or experience anywhere else. i’m not saying the quality of education at the other ivies or at other good schools is bad, but cornell has really a specific and different philosophy about the way they want their students to learn and everyone who goes there appreciates that and knows that.

Well the argument goes that Cornell is the least selective and therefore has a student body composed of students who aren’t up to the academic rigor of the “more prestigious” ivies.

It’s a really, really dumb argument.

If you’d like to learn more about this stupid argument, click the following link and prepare to shake your head at some of the dumb statements which were posted on this page:

[The Great Ivy League Snob-Off, Part I:Ann Coulter Hates Cornell, Cornellian Hates Poor People > aggies, ann coulter, Cornell, Cornell Daily Sun, elitism, the great ivy league snob off, this is why people hate the ivy league | IvyGate](http://www.ivygateblog.com/2009/03/ann-coulter-hates-cornell-cornellian-hates-poor-people/)

Seriously, most of these are worse than youtube comments.

Actually, I think Dartmouth is ranked a bit higher. It doesn’t matter though. Those rankings aren’t even really about quality of education.

well being the worst of the ivies is liking being the dumbest person at a mensa conference, does it really matter? go to your dream school and be happy the valedictorian of my class this year is applying to cornell early decision, the only Ivy the saludatorian is applying to is brown and another student a few spots down the list is applying to every ivy, everyone has different goals and preferences and the rankings dont mean s h i t.

^^^my thoughts exactly. This athletic conference has really molded people’s perception into believing that those eight universities are God’s gift to the earth.

Some people in that article even said that Cornell’s contract colleges aren’t even in the Ivy Leagues. Like seriously, do they even know what the Ivy League is?

A sports conference. 'nuff said.

ehhh i didn’t want to start a debate… well whatever. i love everything about cornell  and i’m ecstatic and i can’t wait to start there

There’s no debate here. We’re just all agreeing that it’s dumb that people place so much emphasis on a term reserved for determining which sports teams will play against each other.

actually it isn’t the sports conference its the stipulations that come with being in the sports conference. The ivy league is so distinguished because they are all private, northeastern colleges which focus on academics rather than athletics, that has been the goal of the conference from its beginnings. That is why academics became synonymous with the ivy league.
