Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

haha valv you can friend me too!

eeek jemma, i hope things get sorted out soon.

cornellstore was closed when i went today :frowning: but tomorrow this is what i’m buying: at least 3 sweatshirts (one for me and each of my brothers…maybe 2 for me hahha), 2 t-shirts, a key chain, 2 car stickers (one for me and one for mama), sweat pants, and thank-you gifts for the people who wrote me LORs and helped me through the process. i may be forgetting something, but i’m sure i’ll snatch it up when i see it lol
cornell obsessed? i think so… not that this is news lol

ironic…i…am not real sure which one is you…emine? is that you?

Is anyone that has been accepted already interested in off campus housing (well in reality it is on campus with the frats on west campus-just not technically b/c it is not through cornell), literally across the street from alice cook house on west campus. Much cheaper than on campus (you can save about $1000 for one semester alone vs an on campus double, this will only vary based on electric cost), plus you can cook and save a fortune on food vs. meal plan (or if you want a meal plan, all the west campus houses with dining halls are within a 2-5 minute walk, with cook being closest and keeton furthest). Because almost all transfers will be housed on west, you will be in the same area. I was a spring transfer last semester and lived in carl becker house which is about a 2-3 minute walk from my apartment.

I am going aboard for spring semester and want to sublet, apt is with 3 other guys, an engineer, bio major, and econ major (all juniors, but would not mind a soph moving in). I have my own really nice bedroom and we have digital cable and unlimited cable internet included in rent, only electric is extra, but split 4 ways (on campus internet is limited to 10gb/month before they start charging extra, and tv costs a fortune). If anyone is interested send me a PM and I will give more details/pictures.

yeah, valv, i’m emine. include a message with your friend request saying that you’re valv :)

ironic u are so lucky to be at cornell. I was there last week and couldn’t resist this awesome sweatshirt at the cornellstore. I’, actually so jealous, I wish i could just go as a freshman! I knew I wanted to go to cornell in middle school but then slacked in hgih school and now really jknow it is the onyl place for me. So i basicly hate myself- really. And I wont eb fully content until I’m there again. If and when I eventually get in The first thing I’m doign when I get up there is hugging the big statue of ezra cornell.

oh thanks you guys for the sweet words.
i spent the afternoon sobbing but hopefully ill hear some good news from other colleges i applied to.
i hope all of you get in though… :)

@hermanns, I was wondering what the whole deal was with on campus internet. What do you mean by after 10gb they start charging extra? How do they measure it, like how much your computer uses…? I know I’m bringing a slingbox for television viewing.

Sorry I’m not interested in joining you guys though, lol. Not yet anyway.

def, I had the same situation, I’ve loved Cornell since 6th grade and I kind of lost my way in high school, only getting Bs and an A or two at best in classes I excelled in. So I had to go to a community college, but I worked hard to impress the ad-coms. It’s definitely a feasible goal and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to both save money and find a great route to Cornell. (Though if you CANNOT stand your little brother, I suggest you convince that one friend about the apartment near the other community college ASAP is a good idea, before he decides he likes his own bed more than he likes paying rent.)

Oh and valvsu has an awesome name, just throwing that out there.

the campus internet thing really sucks. they charge you for using more than your monthly amount, and yeah they measure how much your computer uses. i was talking to my friend here who said that her first month, she watched tv shows online and she got a bill for like $120. ridiculous.

everyone here is so nice  not that i didn’t know that already, but andy stayed in his room last night to do work and i went downstairs and made like 10 friends instantly. there was a firepit thanksgiving party thing and so i sat outside in my pajamas and talked to all these people who were sooooo nice and happy for me that i got in, it was really cute. seriously everyone here is always so sweet. i’ve started conversations with so many random people and i don’t think i’ve met more than one person who wasn’t super nice. for anyone who was ever nervous about making friends, seriously don’t be :)

As ironicallyunsure said, they track your usage and start billing you by the megabyte after you exceed 10GB. They track it through your MAC id, whether it be through directly plugging your computer in or with a router. Streaming and torrenting are the easiest ways to go over, I really have to control my usage last semester. It really sucks because campus internet is insanely fast, but does not do much good when you cannot take full advantage of it. I am probably using ~100gb (wouldn’t surprise me if it was a lot more though b/c I upload 24/7) a month now off campus b/c of torrents and it costs nothing extra.

Wow. Download restrictions? That sucks.

Hey Hermanns, didn’t you transfer into ILR?

Hey serendipityxp and rolemodel,

I had my interview with someone in the Bay Area. He has his own chain of restaurants and my interview took place at one of them. Really nice guy but graduated a long, long time ago from Cornel. Probably in his late 40’s. He said that he was there only to help me get in and that he was entirely on my side…whether that’s true or not, it definitely put me at ease! My interview was about 45 min and I mostly talked about my extracurriculars. He also told me about his experience at the school.

Did not hear anything about the grading system from him.

haha thanks, water. ppl tell me its very unique. its pronounced exactly as you spell too what were my parents thinking lol

east89, it’s not just download, they count upload toward the 10gb too, which makes it worse. DC++ is a way to get around it for downloading, but the selection is nothing compared to all the torrent sites out there.

And yeah, I transferred into ILR last spring. I am in an incredibly boring ILR class right now in fact (politics of the global north). I am doing a credit internship next semester; do not want to go through another Ithaca winter.

Are you are a current ILR applicant?

Well I guess my rapidshare account won’t be too useful if I go up there.

Yea, I applied to ILR. I’m still waiting on my decision which should arrive sometime within these next 2 weeks from what I’ve heard.

Yeah, I did not get my decision until dec 8 last year, which coincidentally was my birthday. I would think you should probably hear early-mid december, I might have heard sooner last year, but Ian was unable to call us because he had the flu and I had to wait for the decision to go up online.

That makes sense for your applicant pool, but we’ve all been waiting since October, so it’s becoming a little tedious now.

Incidentally, would you like to read my essay :)?

crickets

hahahaha water
yay i can finally log into the housing portal. i put my preferences as single, single, single, single. is that bad? lol
i’m going back to my high school tomorrow to tell all my old teachers that i’m not a total failure at life  i’m really excited lol

hey did anybody apply for fin aid yet? I am applying and I’m confused…

I’m almost positive I didn’t get in. The housing portal and self service says my Net ID doesn’t exist. I’m pretty sure that means I’ve been thrown out of the system…
