Who's applying for Spring transfer 10'-Cornell?

As a spring transfer this past year, I can help with some of the questions that I have seen.

First of all, you should not have to pay the deposit until they let you know the financial aid, regardless of whatever deadline they give. They absolutely should not be able to “give your spot away”. They literally did not tell me my finaid until like a week before I had to be there for orientation, and that was over the phone, the envelope with my aid breakdown did not get to my house until after I had left. I just went ahead and sent the deposit as soon as they told me the aid over the phone. The dec 15 date they estimate was not at all accurate last year. They put transfers on the backburner while they figured out aid for the early decision kids.

All of you will meet during orientation for sure. Spring transfer is a small group, and you all will have plenty of opportunities to meet each other, especially those in same college. The ILR transfers were a pretty tight group at the beginning as it was somewhat awkward to transfer mid year, but we all made plenty of other friends as the semester went on.

Well that’s good news, Lacey! What he wrote, I mean, not what you wrote haha. Hopefully we will actually get our financial aid on time and you won’t have to sweat it. But if you don’t want to take hermanss word for it, you can call them to verify just in case.

Actually, now that I think about it, my acceptance for fall came last spring around May 2nd or so. My financial aid package didnt’ arrive until like, the 19th. They probably said I had a 10 day deadline to get my deposit in, but we never sent it. In fact, we even waited two weeks after my aid package arrived for the reevaluation they promised us to get here. When we got the email and realized it was too much, I told them I would be unable to attend (and that was after ANOTHER week of deliberating.)

So definitely don’t have that be a factor. Until you get the aid package, there’s no need to rush the deposit. The only reason I’ve already sent mine in, is because they confirmed they’re giving us the same aid as last time (with minor tweaks, most likely we get a little more) and I know that after saving for another semester I’m good to go.

I’ve heard orientations come in a bunch of groups though, how does it work? Do we have to go through cheesy self-introductions and mild social gatherings or is it a grande tour with some neat events? Haha, just curious, I don’t really mind whatever they have planned for us, I’m sure it’ll be fun.

thats good, cause i literally freaked out right now and emailed a bunch of people seeing what was up. ill probably mail it out on friday when i get paid, but thank you to water and hermann for the reassuring words.

i mean, i always heard that it was like till a certain date or 10 days after receiving aid, which ever came first… but since i never received aid i was like “yo eff sending them 400 dollars just to find out i cant go!” but now i freaked out as if it was too late!!

well i feel a little reassured. honestly, ive talked to so many people there that they seem very relaxed as in they wont dick me out of my spot so easily. hah

anyway, whos excited for housing!! 2 days hopefully!! :]

@lacey, I had the same question and they replied this
Dear Luigi, Thank you for your message and congratulations on your admission toCornell University. We encourage you to respond to our offer only afteryou receive your financial aid package. As long as your financial aidapplication is complete, you should hear from the Financial Aid Officewell before December 15th. Should you have additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact usagain, Undergraduate Transfer AdmissionsCornell University

So I think we are ok to send the deposit later. If someone else took my spot,i’m totally showing them that it is their fault :D

wow! thank you for posting that! that’s very reassuring then, i appreciate that <3 i emailed them too but havent gotten a response.

thank you then <33 that makes me feel a whole lot better

(and if i found out someone took my spot, i’d go to their house and wrestle them for it)

Yeah, no need to worry, they will give you time because it is their fault you do not have the aid yet. And no one is going to take your spot, I don’t think they HAVE to fill all the spots in the spring, because it would be easy to just make up for it in the fall if they had a low yield for whatever reason since the transfer class in the spring is so small.

BTW, I have several interested parties, but my room is still available as of now for sublet next semester at a substantially reduced price compared to on campus housing, as I am going off campus to do a credit internship. Rent alone is considerably cheaper than on campus, but if you cook yourself you can easily save about another $2000 by not having to have a ridiculously overpriced mealplan with usually bland food (cornell dining halls are as grossly overrated as they are overpriced). You will have your own room with double bed rather than the twin furnished in the dorms, kitchen, bathroom, living and dining rooms, and balcony, plus electric heat with thermostat in each room. 3 guys as roommates (and they all live on other end of apartment, my room is by itself and really quite) who are really laid back and easy to get along with, and also would not mind having a girl move in.

Apt is really clean and just across the street from the west campus housing system where most transfers will end up (across university avenue from alice cook), well other than those unlucky enough to end up in cascadilla or the townhouses, which was a lot of people last year, although the gothics aren’t much improvement either. Anyone interested can PM me and I will give all details plus pics.

Lol. I’d ground pound them into tomorrow, whoever was to take my spot. I wonder how that works anyway…like, say you get rejected, and your major has no GTs, then someone who gets in pulls out. You get a lucky phone call?..Probably not since they accept more than they can fit (hence some of us getting forked on housing, lol.)

But speaking of that, WORD. I’m psyched to find out where we’ll all be living. Basically any newly accepted ILRies will get to register for housing and find out right after where they’ll be, neat.

The thread for cell numbers is on the cornell FB group, everyone. ;D Just an FYI if you guys feel up to meeting the CC group come week #1.

EDIT: oh wow, hermans, thats actually a nice location for an apartment! I don’t think I can take it though, I’d rather have one semester in a west campus dorm if I can, at the least. Next year I’ll debate on where to head from there. I hope you find someone to sublet!

hermann, that sounds beautiful, but honestly my boyfriend (despite the 3 hour distance, we want to try and make it work) would probably have a heart attack at the thought of me with 3 boy roommates haha.

as far as a CC meet up, im 100% down! i’m super stoked, every day i want to die at work, i just think i only have A MONTH left of this nonsense before i leave!! only a month!

oh! and in case anyone lives in nj or ny, theres a bus system called CollegeExpress and i figured id post about it on here. its pretty fantastic actually. it leaves from west campus and goes directly to Rockaway Mall, where i currently work and is 15 minutes from my house :stuck_out_tongue: so if anyone’s curious about it, check it out

haha i saw hermanns’s apartment, it’s actually really nice and the 2 roommates i met were also nice, and yeah, the location is incredible. i’m still going to let you know what happens after i get my housing assignment, btw  and sorry for not responding to your follow-up PM, my blackberry was doing weird things and wouldn’t send it and then i kind of forgot… sorry again about that.

hahaha i keep trying to get myself to finish up my stony brook work. i just finished a 5 page paper but i have another 8 page one due wednesday which i obviously didnt start yet hahaha. such a bad student, definitely can’t do this at cornell. ps andy accidentally bought a bus ticket so if anyone needs one, it’s from NYC to ithaca or ithaca to NYC (pretty sure it doesn’t matter which way, as long as it’s to/from the same locations), so let me know if you want it.

ironic, could u look at my last post please?

Emine, thanks for the nice words about my place, and I figured you were still waiting on the housing with last week being a short week. I’m just trying to spark up some more interest in case things don’t work out, although I think you would be the perfect fit for this place. I do not feel the other people that are interested would be that great of a fit for my roommates (grad students) and would rather have someone our age take my room, which all the spring transfers would be.

ironic, I’d take the ticket, as long as it’s not expired by the end of February =). Also sorry I didn’t get to see you at the game, Alex couldn’t make it and I wanted to see him before we both left for school again so I left like…15 minutes early. Ehe.

Speaking of school…blah.

Now that I think about it, only one person from CC who applied to ILR was rejected last spring.

Incidentally, there’s far too many people talking in here at the moment. Some of you are going to have to leave…NOW!

J/k

O. Well it turns out that everyone actually did leave after I said that.

That always happens to east  haha.

Yay Azu visiting  Yeah, I’m upstate already, i dont need the bus pass, we’ll be driving on out. I have a few people in my area, including a freshman friend, who go to Cornell so I’ll probably carpool back home with them whenever if need be.

def, that’s okay, as long as you take all the pre-reqs. those should be your priority, so make sure during orientation when you register for classes you really jump on those because some, if not all, will be filled by then. take your math placement test ASAP so that you don’t have to do it when everyone else is registering for classes because if you need to take calculus or stats, you’ll want to be registered as quickly as you can. if you bust your butt, you can get a 4.0. i always had to take super hard classes so maybe that’s why my grades suffered. actually, def, why don’t you PM me with a list of pre-reqs and general classes that you’re interested in and i’ll log on to stony’s class system thing and i’ll give you the 5-digit numbers so when you get to orientation you can hop on a computer and get them down while everyone is still checking the books.

hermanns, no problem, after all, i can’t make you hold it for me. i believe housing assignments start coming out on dec 1, so i should be letting you know soonish.

azu, i’m pretty sure it’s valid for the next 6 months, so i can definitely hook you up with it. i’ll ask andy just in case. and no worries about the game, it was ridiculously crowded anyway. MSG was sold out, crazy stuff. mad cornell love <3

and LOL@ east

It’s all good. I’m just not going to invite you guys to my b-day party next year.

Yea, take that.

I thought only people from the west had birthdays.

That’s a lie and you know it.
