Who's going to Parent Weekend?

Denison’s is this weekend. It feels like we just did the drive though! But I’m looking forward to seeing son - as he is a little cut off from the world. His cell phone is lost and his computer is broken.

We’ll go out to eat (and take any friends who don’t have visiting parents), hopefully see an ultimate frisbee game, maybe take a bike ride on the great bike path. We’ll stay at our favorite B&B where it feels like we are visiting old friends. Stroll around the pretty little town of Granville and look at the adorable houses. Son will want to have a take him to the grocary store. We’ll try not to show up on campus before 11:00AM on Saturday (and clear out by 9:00PM at night).

Should be fun!

What are your plans?

We are skipping first year parents weekend.

We we just up for lacrosse alumni weekend, H is going up to see a football game this weekend, and S is coming home for fall break the next weekend. Then … practically immediately, it’s a fall ball tournament that we have to go to … S will be playing.

S2 has his own sport and I think we will have a conflict for actual parents weekend.

How lucky that you are able to attend your son’s sporting events! Sounds like great fun.

I am really wishing that I could go up for parent’s weekend in three weeks…soooo much!!!

Darn $$$$$

But we will go up the first week in December to see dd in a dance performance, so that will be great fun! And the City at Christmas…I have never actually been there in December…

Going to Boston College’s Parents’ Weekend on Friday!! D is a senior, so we’re a little sad about our last PW there! But my sister’s son is there, so it’s going to be a big family weekend!! Friday night is “Pops on the Heights”–the Boston Pops comes out to do a great concert with the BC Chorale in Conte Forum, and it includes a box dinner–we love it! Saturday means tailgating at the mods, football game vs. Maine (please win this won, Eagles!!) and out to dinner with a huge group of parents & kids! Mass on Sunday and then we head back!

S1’s Duke Parents’ Weekend is at the end of October, so we’ll be going to that, too! Engineering BBQ, Football vs. Vanderbilt (can Duke win that one??) and the Blue/White Basketball Scrimmage in Cameron–gotta love that basketball!

We’re lucky that both schools have such a nice Parents’ Weekend–and that we can go to them (bringing S2 along!)

We are off to Boston this weekend too, and we’re all excited. S2 is already putting together his shopping list.

CMM: Two years ago, my treat to myself & family was a visit to NYC at Christmas. It was magic – the tree at Rockefeller Center, the store windows, Mass at St. Patrick’s, a Broadway play… All the touristy stuff, and we loved every minute. Have a great trip!

To Quote my DD, Why would you want to come THAT weekend? Campus will be too busy, roads will be filled with people from out of town who don’t know where they’re going… Sound like she’s adjusting well… or doesn’t want us to interupt her … eh hem… studying ;-)

Since my D (and only child) is across the country, I had no intention of going to parents and friends weekend, a mere 8 weeks after school began. That is of course until she (who is very independent) asked me, “you ARE coming to f & f weekend aren’t you?” To which I responded (without skipping a beat), “I wouldn’t miss it.” (I let my eyes water later, when I was all alone)

Hey, if she wants me there, I’m there. I suspect within a year or two those times when she actually wants me there will be less and less. Good thing she said something.

Yep, it’s in a couple of weeks. Cheap flight on Ding! and hotel from Hotwire and I am there. Can’t wait to see him!

Kat

I’m not only heading to MIT for Family Weekend in Oct. for the second year in a row, but I’m helping corral the CC MIT parents for a face-to-face coffee klatch. I’m hoping it’ll be lots of fun. And it will be divine to put my arms around the skinny kid with the fluffy mop of hair again.

We’ll be heading to Hendrix early Friday morning to visit our one and only. We’re taking the dog with us and we all just look forward to having some family time together. Here’s hoping for good weather for all who will be traveling. Have fun!

We’ll be there early Friday night. Long drive but it will be worth it. Sorority Sing and then a football game on Saturday. Hopefully some quiet time together. Hopefully. I care not a whit about the canned events. I just want to see the kid.

It will be our last one at USC. We have gone to two others. Plus it’s a chance to see our son, something we haven’t done in months.

I got home from the move-in 12 days ago and now we leave in 2 weeks to go back. DH couldn’t do the first trip so he’s happy to go in Oct.

BBQ @ Merle’s in Evanston…mmmm.

DD is making all kinds of plans to fit in around her study schedule.

DD1 is a little jealous so I’ll go to NYC for an overnight with her over Columbus Day wknd. She’s not in school, but wants a PW, too.

That’s how we are too! This is our “gourmet” son (the other one doesn’t eat anything but burgers) and he is always fine-dining-seeking, so a nice meal together and he’s happy as a clam. That’s when we’ll hear any scoop he’s willing to give up and we always just enjoy being together. It’s also fun to bring his friends too, especially because I feel bad for his California friends whose parents are just too far away to come. Fortunately we’ll be there two nights. Hope you have a great time.

I guess this is why we never do parent’s weekend. I’ve been reading these posts and feeling very guilty. Have had 10 opportunities to go to parents weekends so far and we haven’t attended a one. We do go see the kids occasionally–watch D. ride, take them out to eat or shopping, etc. I guess I like being there when it’s not crowded and accomodations are easy to find.

We won’t be attending parents weekend in November at Hanover. We asked DS to make a choice—we come for the weekend (huge pain for us-we live in Germany) OR we could go to London, as a family when he came home for Christmas Break. He answered before I could finish—London, of course.

We will send my sister or my husbands parents to stand in for us in November.

Hey doddsmom! Nice to hear from you. How is C liking Hanover? How is doddsdad holding up? I pick London, too.

For those who are unable to attend, I’ll offer the opinion that it’s not a big deal. We did attend Parent’s Weekend last spring, but DS had a lot of homework and was too busy to spend much time with us. We actually have enjoyed visiting more on weekends where his schedule works out better. Also, we knew several of his friends who did not have parents in attendance, and some just joined us for dinner. For parents who are able to go, have a great time! But I wouldn’t worry about it if it doesn’t work for you.

Our daughter is at Columbia College in Nyc and I am off to see her for parent weekend, flying 10,000 miles (one way) to spend that time with her. She doesnt ask for much but made a good point when she asked me to fly down for the parent weekend. She said she wasnt homesick but would certainly get so, if she saw most of her friends parents visiting them and no one from the family would be there to represent her. I thought she had tugged at the right strings and off i go on 17th oct.
