I just had my interview today (kind of soon, i know!). I was just wondering how other people’s went… did they ask you some kind of unconvential questions, or was that just my interviewer?

I was asked many “unconventional” questions too. I remember him asking me to give an example of a syllogism that did not really work logically.

Ew, it’s more like a test? :-/

My interviewer asked me, “what is the equation for God?” Overall, it was pretty mediocre for me. Lasted only 1/2 hour.

^ ??? yours sounds like it might have been even more painful than mine was

if anyone’s curious, they can read about mine here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=116494

Lol you guys are freaking me out. I have my interview this Thursday (does that seem kind of late considering I applied early?) Any tips? Thanks.

P.S. So what did you say for an equation lol?

wow mine wasn’t as bad you guys’!! the worst he asked me was what i thought about “the great books” (ie plato socrates) so i was able to make it relate to what i want to study… and we got into a political conversation (cuz he was an economics major and i want to study international studies). anyway it was kind of cool, and not scary because he just asked me something about an interest i had already mentioned, so i actually knew what i was talking about… unlike the equation for god!

*** is the equation for god?

I’ll benefit from all your stories, transfer interviews start in Jan.

I have an interview in a couple of weeks. I’ve make a post about it later. :X !

my interview was very laidback and informal, and lasted about an hour and a half. The interviewer really did not ask me a lot of questions…all I can remember is why Chicago, what kind of social atmosphere do i want in college, is Chicago my first choice, what do i want to do after college, what other colleges am i applying to…that was basically it. it was mostly me asking the interviewer questions about chicago.
The interview is mostly to see if Chicago is a “fit”, at least in my case it was.

Well, I told him my favorite subject is math and that I am doing some research in the subject, and I guess we kind of swung into a tangent.

I interviewed, and two of my friends interviewed as well. We all had different interviewers and wildly different questions.

My interviewer asked questions like this…

*What don’t you like about the U of C
*What don’t you like about the core
*How will you be able to transition from living in a wealthy suburban area to Hyde Park?

One of my friends got questions like this…

*If you could go back in time and change the outcome of one event, which event any why?
*If you could go back in time and meet anyone, which person would you most want to meet?

My other friend got questions like this…

*How do you like the Chicago Bears’ super bowl chances?
*Do you think the White Sox can repeat?

wow… i am sooo glad i didn’t get any sports questions. my guy worked at a tech company though… so i doubt he would be very sporty ;)

Did you guys do an alumni interview or an interview in Hyde Park? I’m a transfer going to school here in Chicago, so I’ll do one at UC.

oy i feel bad, my interview was very pleasant :D

It ran more like I was interviewing my interviewer lol. I just kept asking her questions about the school and she only asked me a couple of questions, the hardest one being “Where else are you applying?”

yea drop seriously that’s how mine felt…i guess it depends a lot on the interviewer…

I really enjoyed my interview (It was on campus ). He asked me some very unconventional questions, but they were really thought provoking- not just weird for weird’s sake. He was incredibly candid with me and gave me alot of suggestions for the application. Overall, it was a really awesome experience and typical of all the contact I’ve had with the school. I think the whole process depends SO much on who your interviewer is. It seems that the goal is to see how you tick, and make you step out of your comfort zone

Me too. I liked the odd questions - I answered everything semi-thoughtfully but stalled alot, the interviewer said that he was impressed partially as a result…

we shall see.
