Who's ordering an iPhone 5?

Cartera,
On advice of the worm (grad student NS/CS), I got a rubber case at Apple store. it only came in white or black, and has lots of holes. He said it wasn’t the prettiest, but the most comfortable to hold. Its been good for a year. I have the 4. I looked the Apple store site, and could not find a link.

The worm just got the 5, and I gave him gift certificate so he can pick out his case. When he does, I’ll pass on the info. When he got his last phone, I got him the blue Otter, which he returned.

DS got a rubber case at Walmart. It has a lot of holes on the back. I heard there are only two colors. He got the green one. (likely because it is more visible when he needs to locate it?) It does not add much weight to it (but it does not look particularly strong.) It is not an expaensive one, likely $18.99. He seems to be pleased with it (so far at least.) But he is not a picky person. (He continued to use his beat-up iPod Mini till it finally died a couple of years ago, and then even thought of buying non-Apple music player because it is cheaper – but in the end he did not have any music player until now as he thought he would likely eventually get an iPhone.)

I just got my iPhone 5 and I am having a problem. The phone keeps kicking off wifi. In the house, check to see if I’m on wireless and I’m not. So I manually click on and connect. Half an hour later same thing. Will not stay connected to wireless.

My iPad stays connected and the kids got Galaxy 3’s and they stayed connected. It’s just my iPhone. I’m using data in my own house.

Any ideas?

Have you updated to 6.0.2? Wifi was supposedly an issue fixed with that update.

Thanks, it is updated. I just checked. So this is a problem and I’m not crazy. Interesting.

Bookworm, I have the Otterbox Defender that I really like. I’m just sorry I bought all black. I’ll probably get a second one in a cooler color. They are not easy - for me anyway - to get off the phone.

Neither of our 5’s has been updated and we have no problem staying connected on WiFi… is that 802.11 g or the new n?

Did the Apple Maps guy also work in autocorrect? I’ve seen Nokia phones from 2000 that offered better autocorrect (for SMS etc) than the iPhone 5 has. It’s awful, if you’re used to the near magical and mind-reading autocorrect of Windows Phones…

On WiFi, there’s a setting with each service to automatically connect. For some reason, the setting sometimes gets turned off and I need to turn it back on again. I don’t know if this has happened or not since the last update.

I had to return my iPhone & got a replacement because we noticed a small yellow light in the upper right corner of my phone. While I was at the store, I also returned the OtterBox and didn’t buy a new case. I LOVE the new iPhone and feel it would be a shame to cover it up. I think I’ll just be more careful with it. H has his in a white OtterBox commuter–we both find it rather clunky.

I will be getting a $200 giftcard for AppleStore (from Schwab promotion), so we can look & see what we want to use it for.

The relatively cheap protection cover DS got at Walmart:
ifrogz iphon5 breeze teal black
I think he was not willing to pay more for the cover case.

He got a white iPhone 5. We have not heard any complaints about its quality from him as of today.

Have AT@T can’t get Verizon’s texts unless from another iPhone
Hi I searched this thread and might have missed an answer. My iPhone 5 is a few weeks old and most everyone I text has an iPhone. My sister has Verizon and not an iPhone one good friend also has Verizon. I cannot receive texts from them, I can send but they don’t receive. What can I do ? Or do I just have to call or email them ?

That’s odd. I have not noticed having any problems sending texts. Will ask D if she’s had any issues. I hadn’t thought about it, but many of the people I text to DO happen to have iPhones.

D says she has gotten texts from tmobile & others on other carriers & non-iPhones. Have not read or heard about a problem.

That’s a weird problem… Go to the genius bar at your local Apple store and get them to fix it. If you’re going to buy an Apple product, you might as well make use of the customer service. It’s the best thing about them.

My sister has received my texts on her Verizon android & I have received her replies on my Sprint iPhone.

Thanks for helping. Nothing has worked so far. Wasn’t able to take a lunch break today to call, maybe tomorrow. Tried a few things I found online but no luck so far.

Lamom, we just switched from att to Verizon. Right before we switched we could not receive texts from Verizon customers. It was only Verizon. Wonder if it’s a att system wide problem with receiving texts. Verizon customer received our texts, we couldn’t receive theirs.

Applecare was no help. Did more web search and then called 611 AT&T, the lady had to change some settings on their end. Now I can connect with my sister. thanks to all.
ps love the otterbox, because I have dropped it several times.

H has an OtterBox, which he isn’t sure he’s going to keep. He does like that it makes the phone less likely to be damaged/broken if it is dropped, stepped on, or whatever but hadn’t fully realized how much bulkier and heavier it makes his phone. He has kept his phone in the OtterBox for now, but is still not “in love” with the bulkiness. I got a very thin “gel” “bumper” plus a sticker screen protector that I put on my phone. It doesn’t provide much protection but it isn’t nearly as bulky.

Got a confirmation from Sprint that I should be getting back a $100 credit/line that we ported over from other carriers when we started our Sprint service with the Credit Union benefit that just expired Jan 10, 2013. That $400 extra will come in handy!

HImom, thanks for the help and congrats on the good news w/$$. Otterbox is bulky but same as the iphone4 I had in my iskin case. Son likes the Speck case, more than a bumper with some cushion.
