I’m planning on trying to order one tomorrow. We’ll see if I can get through. Any others out there? This will be my first smartphone.

My hairdresser is! :)

Not me. I have the original iPhone 3g and it works fine for what I need. If the iPhone 4 drops in price to free as a result of this iPhone 5 then I might buy one of those since it’d be in my price range.

You’ll really like the smartphone given your technical affinity. It’s pretty amazing what’s packed into the devices.

I prefer andoid phones because I don’t want to get locked into the Apple ecosystem, but if I wanted an iphone5, I wouldn’t order one until I knew what the specifications are and that won’t be until later this week.

I currently have an iphone 4 which I love. My contract is up in January so I might look into upgrading at that time.

My son is in the market for a smartphone. He loves the apple interface (has used an itouch for years). I’m going to wait to see if he wants the i5. If there aren’t many upgrades and he wants to go for the lowered price of a 4s, I’m going to take one for the team and sell him my 4s (at a lower price then apple) and I’ll get the i5. DH has a 4 (personal) and a 4s (work). If S1 wants the i5 I’ll probably be perfectly content to hang onto my 4s. I had an original iphone until the screen cracked, gave it up kicking and screaming and went to the 4s…that’s how old it was, and yes I do have grandfathered unlimited data from the original iphone and AT&T hates me. :D

AT&T’s stock price is up 21% in six months. They can’t hate you very much.

I’m ordering one. I’ll be traveling tomorrow so I hope I can get through. I have the 4 and will pass it down to my son, who lost his in a bicycle wreck.

FWIW, MacRumors is reporting that pre-orders may not begin until Friday:

[Apple Staffing Up for iPhone 5 Pre-orders Beginning on Morning of Friday, September 14? - Mac Rumors](Apple Staffing Up for iPhone 5 Pre-orders Beginning on Morning of Friday, September 14? - MacRumors)

Obviously, by definition it’s MacRumors, but these guys get it right more often then not. I hope the pre-orders do start tomorrow, just be aware there is some word that they might be delayed.

I don’t get why people get so worked up over introductions like this. They’ve somehow survived their entire lives without the new-fangled item (the newest iPhone, the latest video game console, the latest iPad, etc.). They can survive an extra couple of days without the thing. There’s no way I’d ever stand in line for something like this for example (or worse - camp out all night like some people do) - I’d just wait a few more days for things to calm down.

Maybe I’m a spoilsport.

GGD, If you know you want to upgrade, and you can get through from the comfort of wherever your computer is (home, office, etc.), then you avoid the lines and wait. Obviously no one has to stand in line (I wouldn’t either). So again, if you know you’re going to upgrade, seems to me the smart thing is to order online, or wait about six weeks. In my area that’s how long it took AT&T retailers to fulfill their pre-orders and actually get stock to sell with the last iphone release.

I want a SmartPhone for an upcoming trip.

Sure, I could order a Google Galaxy Nexus now and use that on my trip and get the iPhone 5 when I come back and have a spare but I’m hoping I can get one before my trip. Ordering the other one is the backup plan.

blueiguana - I agree - ordering online beats ordering at a store.

My local store is going to be mobbed.

It’s in a tax-free state near the border of a state with a big sales tax.

Not having a iphone, I don’t know how this works. I thought tomorrow they are only announcing the iphone product supposedly. I thought the actual launch of iphone 5 wouldn’t be until September 21st.

Depends on whether the 5 is worth it to me over the 4S. My assumption is the 4S will become the $99 with contract phone and the 4 will become the free with contract phone.

Now if I could figure out these shared data plans.

I can get one in December ( I have a 4).
I may just get a 4s but this one is technically brand new( replaced for water damage)I am grandfathered into unlimited.
;)

I am ordering one, not for me, for D1. We have AT&T and she has unlimited data plan. Does anyone know if she’ll lose that?

Oldfort - I have upgraded from my original iphone and have not lost my unlimited data plan.

do you go to a Verizon store or an apple store to preorder the phone?
