Post tomorrow if you are able to get one. May the force be with you.

You preorder online.

You would go to the Apple Store or the Verizon Store if you wanted to buy one in-person but the date for that is usually sometime after they start taking pre-orders. At the Apple Store, you may wind up in a long line to buy one. I believe that the Verizon Store will get a much smaller allocation compared to the Apple Store.

Yes but is it possible to go to a Verizon store and preorder? I have a special situation in which I have to use my moms upgrade from her work plan so I get the cheap price. So would going to a Verizon store work for preordering?

No. Verizon gets an allocation. You come in and try to buy - if they have them, you buy. If not, you leave. I spoke to someone in the local Verizon Store and they said that you can’t reserve and they don’t know how many they get in per day. So either pre-order online or you wait in line or you call every day to see how many they have and hope that they don’t all sell out by the time you get to the store.

Yes, the Verizon store will be taking pre-orders. When they will start doing that is up to them, and how long it takes to fill them is up to how many/what type of phones apple sends them. It was very sporadic with the 4s release. They might get 5 16G white & 3 16G black in one delivery and nothing else. If you’re waiting for a 32G black you just have to wait.

EDIT: I crossed posts with BCEagle. My suggestion is to call or visit your local Verizon store and ask how they are handling pre-orders, if any.

Oldfort, if you do not touch the plan, you are not going to lose your unlimited data. We upgraded many times without losing ours.

I need 2 of them, alas, UNLOCKED. So I will wait. :)

Galaxy III here.

That is the way it has worked in the past and today. What will come tomorrow might be different. They might not change the availability of unlimited data plans but limit the functions that can use the unlimited data. Check mobile share and facetime for an insight as to what might show up in a near future.

PS I am ordering one via ATT, but I seriously doubt that tomorrow will be the day the floodgates open up! :)

I’m ordering one and passing down my 4S to hubby-

xiggi is exactly right. The Iphone 5’s are 4G and AT&T was going to make it incompatible with the current data plans, forcing you to have to give up the unlimited data plan for a new one. But they got a LOT of pushback from angry customers and are “rethinking” it…

I’m hoping Sprint continues to get the iPhone. My S got the 4S last year and my D’s contract is now up and she would really like to get the new version. Hopefully she won’t wait in line!

I’m going to wait until my contract is up, which is right after the holidays, so I’m hoping they have enough quantities that I don’t have to wait too long to move from a Blackberry to an iPhone.

Interesting information about the data plans. I’d be surprised if they force you to another data plan, but can see limits on things like FaceTime, etc., as pointed out. We never use it and could easily work around with a Skype or Oovoo app which are free. I’ll definitely be paying attention to the upgrade ‘fine print’.

Looks like they can throttle the unlimited data plans if they choose
Though, as I said, uit looks like AT&T is responding, somewhat, the the pushback they have gotten [AT&T relents on unlimited data plan limits](http://www.smdailyjournal.com/article_preview.php?id=229661&title=AT&T%20relents%20on%20‘unlimited%20data’%20plan%20limits)

I’ve read about this, but have never experienced it. I really don’t use enough to even be a blip on AT&T’s screen since I’m usually hooked into my home network, don’t watch movies or youtube videos, etc., that can totally hog data.

I just got my iPhone 4 a week ago for free! (by the time they added in all my credits it was free except for the $30 upgrade fee Verizon tacks on with each new phone now…) so I’m set for awhile!!!

ah…the new gadget,must have…NOT

I also don’t think I experience throttling, although I do periodically reset my wireless at home when it seems slow.
I have unlimited, but both of the kids have a 2gb plan and never come near capacity. They also have good access to wireless which is faster than mine.

I don’t ever get things as soon as they come out, although I admit I only waited about a month before I sprung for ipadtrois, but as this is my first iPad, some might think I waited a long time. I also waited for iphone4 before I bought one, although I did have an iPod touch & loved the app selection.

I do enjoy the stories about Woz waiting in line with all the other fanbois though.

;)

My DH will. He loves new technology and it will make him so happy to learn and use all of the new features. I believe he generally pre-orders and then we wait all day for the Fed-ex or UPS truck!

It’s like xmas.

Yup. We’ve even gone out searching for the truck! Crazy, I know!
