D2 graduated two weeks ago from a smaller Ohio private. The scheduled speaker was no one really notable that we were “excited” to hear but when we arrived at the ceremony they announced that this scheduled speaker had to cancel with only about 24 hours notice! Yikes that must have been awkward! One of the beloved deans at the school who is going emeritus agreed to give a speech with less than 24 hours notice. Honestly, it was more meaningful to the students because they know and love him!
This made me wonder who would be the commencement speaker at Amherst this year. It appears it is the college president and a student speaker.
Peggy Noonan is the featured speaker this year ar Notre Dame’s graduation. I hope she’s going to be interesting!
Not a featured graduation speaker, but he spoke regardless at the U of Wisconsin PhD and MD graduation where he received an honorary degree-Steve Miller, of the Steve Miller Band. He almost finished his undergrad at UW, but chased fame and fortune instead, and found it. His speech was sweet and apt. I was thrilled!
