Who's Who?

I got a letter saying that I am going to be in the Who’s Who for American High Schoolers book. I am pretty sure that just about anyone gets this award but I put it on my JHU application nonetheless. Is it just a scam or will it actually look good on my app?

Its a scam…shouldnt have placed it on ur app

Will the fact that I mentioned it hurt me? I don’t see how it can hurt but I know it won’t help. What do you think?

I don’t see why it would hurt. After all, not everybody gets it. I am sure you are not the only one who put it on your app… there are plenty of kids out there who think it’s a lot more than it really is. You’re fine (I think).

I don’t think being a little gullible is grounds for rejection. ;)

I was actually surprised that I never got it. I’m in the top 5% of my class and have received everything else BUT Who’s Who. For the sole reason of its lack of recognition, I really don’t mind.

Anyway, I guess it’s safe to leave it on as an EC. Like corranged said, adcoms can’t penalize an individual for his naivity.

HAHA this kid in my lit class was bragging about how he got nominated for Who’s Who and I snorted (not too loudly) and said, “You do know its a scam, right?” and he retorted, “ITS NOT A SCAM!!!” haaha.

Aww, poor guy. I knew that a lot of people get nominated for Who’s Who but I figured that it couldn’t hurt and so I filled out the form and I wrote it on my app. I hope they don’t think that I am a ■■■■■■ who thinks that Who’s Who is a big deal!!

AdmissionsDaniel, what’s your take on seeing things such as Who’s Who, National Honor Roll and Junior Achievement Academy on applications?
