Why a $200 Perkins Loans?

<p>We just got the revised Financial Aid letter back from UNC. Impressively, it took them only 3 days to update the award after we updated the FAFAS and Profile forms. The award includes a $3500 subsidized loan, $2700 work study, $228 institutional grant and, a $200 Perkins loan. They upped the work study and added the little grant (any free money is appreciated!) but, I thought Perkins Loans were for low income families. We are not low income and have an FAFSA EFC of about $17500. Why would UNC offer and we go to the effort of taking out a $200 loan? UNC does claim to meet 100% of need, so I’m thinking they had to offer something, but really!?!</p>
