I like the idea of “personal best”, a lot.

lemonade, I’m so pleased to hear that Andover invigorates its students so much that they have no interest or time to pursue drugs or alcohol. Times have changed greatly at PA and, I assume, at many other BS’s over the years. When my brother was at Andover during the 70’s, 7 of his 11 cottage mates left school because of drug or alcohol problems. Thank goodness the madness and the stupidity of the 70’s are long past.

To be honest, there are (still) kids at Andover who get into trouble over substance abuse, it just isn’t something that is a problem for my kid. Plenty of teenage stupidity left, I’m sorry to report!

@DAndrew - Loomis Chaffee’s motto is “Our Best Selves”

^^Good to know!

@toombs61: I thought that it’s expected that students get expelled/disciplined because of drugs/alchol use in boarding schools. Let’s face it: there are some teens who would make the stupid mistakes everywhere - be it public schools or private schools. They may get away more easily in PS or even in private day schools, but if the BS school admistration is responsible and “on top of things”, they will/should take actions when things like this do happen. Are there students expelled/'disciplined from Hotchkiss because of drugs/alcohol ever?

And a question to lemonade: How prevalent or serious is the drug/alcohol problem at Andover? Does it happen sporadically, or is there always a group on campus that everyone knows are using drugs/alcohol?

DAndrew, I’m sure that kids get the boot from time to time at THS for drinking/drugging; however, my boy has not told me of any such action during his tenure, and I have heard of none from any other sources. He did tell me, however, about a girl and a guy whom the school tossed last year when caught in a compromising position, so to speak. Maybe I only hear tales of sex and not drugs and drinks from my son because he finds the former more alluring than the latter. (If so, he has his priorities right.)
