Why are B-Boys usually short?

Is it because break dancing hinders growth, or because it’s easier to break dance at short height?

I’m only 5’5 1/2 … I’m really thinking about it :P

It’s because there parents were short.

Body building, break dancing, or whatever does not hinder growth. It will only hinder growth if you by accident break a bone or injure yourself in the process where it hinders growth.

Break dancing does not hinder growth. The reason most B boys are short is because shorter people are more suited for the acrobatics and moves of break dancing. Shorter people have a lower center of gravity, do it’s easier to perform and master tricks without losing your balance. Why do you think world class gymnasts like Shawn Johnson are really short?

@nothingto, bodybuilding can DEFINITELY hinder your growth. High intensity workouts, such as squats and dead lifts, can easily hinder growth if done too early.

^ That’s a myth. A common myth. Squats and Deadlifts can make you shorter temporarily due to the pressure. That means the vertebrate disks in your spine is being compressed. However when you sleep, it re-expands.

However it does NOT stunt growth. There is no scientific evidence that Squats or Deadlifts stunt growth, or close growth plates. However, scientific evidence shows that Growth plates can get damaged during BAD FORM or an Injury.

Know the RIGHT form, and your LIMITS, and it will not stunt growth.

If anything, I think weightlifting might help your growth

Weightlifting releases HGH, which is the main hormone that is associated with growth.

If you’re young, putting too much weight on your growth plates can cause them to fuse prematurely, i.e. hindering growth.

Anyways, I’d think B-boys are usually short because having a lower center of gravity would be helpful in having good balance and all that.

Yeah, but I don’t think that anyone here is younger then 14 years old here.

Under 14 is too young to weightlift. However, 14+ (or under 18 and above 14) can weightlift, just not in the adult level. But it depends on your height initially. If you’re 6’0, then who cares. Lift as much as your body lets you.

Well I am 18 right now so I’ve kinda given up on getting taller at this point anyways >_<. I’m just trying to find ways to take advantage of short heights instead of grieving over it (although I do wish I could still grow 2 or so inches more so I have more options with girls :P)
