Is it because I was commended (i'm pretty sure JUST commended) for National Achievement? If so, why are they calling me and asking for general information? Do these phone calls play roles in the admissions process?

Those calls might put you in line for nice scholarship $$. Remember to ask them if their schools have good marching bands for you to join. :)

^

That sounds nice. It’s kind of awkward as well, since my caller ID is acting funny and I’m afraid that I’m screening some colleges as telemarketers…

Thumbs up for remembering the marching band ^_^

I heard that college calls are often to get you interested in their respective colleges, and hear more about the environment beforehand.

Mind if I ask what the marching band stuff is about? :)

Band Mom has a student in the UCLA marching band and knows the collegiate band scene; Kalookakoo is marching band-bound as well, but doesn’t do kilts. :)

I agree with UCLA Band Mom… I had one nearby college call me every week… It started to get annoying but they were offering a full scholarship for all four years. Had to deny it because they didn’t have my major and it is on the same level as a CC…

Marching Band is an important “criteria” for Kalookakoo

colleges call because they like to have lots of applicants; they get to choose who they want from a larger pool, and, hey, appearing more selective in the national stats doesn’t hurt either. Just wait until you start getting the mail from the Ivy’s and other top schools asking you to apply. Trust me, none of this is because they’ve been searching for applicants they’d be more likely to admit. Its just marketing.
