Why are they tearing down West Union?

I love West Union and it’s gothic feel inside and out. I’m very disappointed that they’re tearing it down and turning it into a modern building. I don’t see anything wrong with how it is now.

And did anyone notice that Harvard, Yale, Princeton, & Cambridge’s seals are on the side of WU? I’d love to know why.

They are NOT “tearing it down” - that would suggest bulldozing the building down the studs and starting anew. To the contrary, “[t]he traditional architecture of the historic three legs of West Union—where the Great Hall, Alpine Bagels and the Alumni Lounge are currently housed—will remain untouched.” They are simply renovating the interior as well as the exterior that faces the ravines in the back - NOT the facade that faces the main West quad. It’s an old structure and they’re creating more dining and student meeting space to meet the need. I think the plans looks pretty nice actually. Should be quite a student center.
