<p>Higher education in the U.S. can probably be split into 3 tiers (obviously imo):</p>
<p>Tier 1: HYPSM
Tier 2: the 20-25 or so other top USNWR private colleges; and the 5-10 top USNWR public colleges
Tier 3: everyone else.</p>
<p>Michigan is included in the second tier, which is still very impressive. (98th percentile; considering there are like 2k institutions of higher education in the US) And considering that it’s a top-5 public, it’s expected that their alumni are proud that they’re going to a top school.</p>
<p>There’s a lot of bias against public schools, and many who go to these public ivies vehemently defend their almamas. (myself included.)</p>
