i actually like going to school so thats why im getting a degree. I have just transferred to a 4 year which is where i have always wanted to go. i received good grades in hs and my parents would have helped pay for college, but i wasn’t ready to leave home (Los Angeles area is hard to leave)

And I want to get a degree because I’m not about to work menial jobs all my life and struggle to make ends meet like my parents have been doing (No disrespect to them, it’s just reality). I want a degree because I want to have a professional career and financial stability.

Because my high school GPA was horrible (2.6) and because I’d rather get all my GE classes out of the way at a community college than at a university. When I transfer, I want to focus on classes pertaining to my major. Plus, it’s cheaper to take GE classes at community college than at university.

Super duper serious with a cherry on top boy.

The most intelligent and successful people I know-excluding all the doctors I’ve come across- never even went to college. And then we can get into all the Billy Gates and Jackity Blacks that did fine without a piece of paper.

I have nothing against education, just the concept of school and the pop culture importance of a degree. There’s a big difference between the two.

you’re lying and wasting our time with the whole first part of your reply. its 2011. you can’t just create an Apple or a Microsoft anymore.

You can’t just walk into a foxconn engineering plant and just expect to be hired based upon self intellect.

Whoever you know that is “MOST INTELLIGENT AND SUCCESSFUL” must have took them a while, a while from the 70’s,80’s and or 90’s.

Get rich quick ideas are very rare and the most recent case is Mark Zuckerberg.

this is a joke thread, why is it important to have a degree? do you not know the unemployment rate of america and the scarcity of jobs? the reason why we are going to UC is to be granted opportunities to work along sides professors, do research, and be granted prospective career outlooks post-undergrad.

such things should be obvious. I’m confused if you’re being serious by asking those questions or are just completely belligerent.

Buddy, I don’t know if it was your perception of my tone or what, but calm down it’s alright- take an aspirin or something, take a nice bubbly bath if that’s what you’re into.

Jack Black worked his ass on to be where he is- it just wasn’t academically related. And yes, you can do anything you put your mind to.

And so you know- I measure intelligence by handling situations and problems in creative and corrective fashion and success by happiness and care towards others.

A degree may help you fish for dollars, but perhaps the journey will help develop the soul-something I find much more important.

Is it not alright for me to be here? By the way, calm down, if you think the thread is stupid, keep it to yourself and go on with your life. It’s just a guy trying to lighten the mood around here so you don’t need bash them.

my mom makes 0 income, I’m gonna go tell her she can be an attorney if she tries really hard, no school necessary.

my best friend has two kids and is struggling alone as a single dad to get through JC, I’m going to tell him, tomorrow he can forget college and become senator if he puts his mind to it.

wait. this isn’t “How To Make It In America Season 2”

no it’s not alright, you have nothing to contribute, and this whole section has no relevance to you, you’re a random. possibly a “call-in” by the OP to co-sign.

By the way, I got into everything except UCLA, INCLUDING UC IRVINE, which was so easy for me to get into. I’m here because, like your mom, mine has 0 income too.

I read that edit and dude, I’m worried about ya. I feel so much passion and anger directed at me- that could go towards a masterful painting or soothing concerto.

If I’ve ever learned anything it’s that anything can happen at anytime for any reason.

It was in the UCI Transfer Questions thread-you wanted to be my personal stalker. Do you remember now, tell me you remember.

To actually answer the question, I came here in the US when I was 15. I started HS as a sophomore. I had high hopes of going to a UC but because of my family’s situation, I decided to go to a community college. With all the pressure of helping the family financially and the cultural adjustments I had to make being in a new place, I just new the CC to UC route was the best option.

My main motivation is really to help my parents financially. I’m majoring in engineering so that I could have a job that pays well.

In my case, I was raised with the notion of having a degree equals a great education which leads into a high-paying job. That once I get my degree and become an engineer, life would be so much better.
