My daughter is an excellent student and wants to become a large animal veterinarian. We live in southern North Carolina. She has recently become very interested in Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va. I have never heard of Emory and Henry. Will my daughter recieve a good education at Emory and Henry that will prepare her for vet school?

It is rated roughly the same as Meredith, Guilford, Salem and UNC-Asheville in your home state (third tier liberal arts college.) She would be far better served going to Chapel Hill or NC State if she likes those, or a more distinguished liberal arts college such as Davidson in NC if she can meet the admissions requirements. She will want a college which will provide her with a strong science background as vet school admissions is very competitive. There are only about thirty schools of veterinary medicine in the United States, and one is at NC State.

Emory and Henry is in my state. I am acquainted with a handful of current students there, and have a close friend who is a graduate. It is a very historic college campus in a lovely part of Virginia with intimacy with the faculty as a standard and recently upgraded physical plants. I have not researched their health track outcomes for admissions to dental, med and vet schools but if you want to hear about the experiences of those I know there, PM. The college would likely answer your questions about how many students apply and are accepted after four years to vet school…so be specific in your questions to them and I am sure you will get the information you should weigh.

dmitch, kansas state has a vet school…has she also looked at kstate for undergrad? do all vet schools offer training in large animal or just some?
