why chicago essay

should a creative touch be added to this essay as well?

Are you kidding?

I’d like to know as well actually. Some schools want a straight up honest answer for this type of essay. But since UChicago is famous for its creative essays, will they care if we just give a straight forward answer for THIS essay

I think giving straightforward answer to Why Chicago is ok. Not all people who got into UChicago last year wrote love letters for this.

i attended a UofC information session and the officer explicitly stated, not in the exact words, “Don’t tell me you like the scenery and the lake and the birds chirping so mellifluously” She said to genuinely write WHY you want to attend and add more. Mention clubs and activities. What will Chicago offer that other universities won’t?

Be creative with this too but be genuine in your answer. If you’re applying to Chicago, you should have a good reason for it. What is that reason?

Good luck!

I checked my notes and she said “Be specific and unique.”

/raises hand

My Why Chicago essay was as dull as the boiled vegetables they serve in the dining hall. (I don’t advocate making yours boring, of course.) It’s not a big deal.

Thanks guys! (and I’m sure the OP as well)

Lol wow Haavain, the food there is that bad? Oh dear. :P

It’s not bad at all, actually, although it does get sort of old when you’re eating it every day. The meat is fine. The starches, etc., are fine. The salad bar is pretty good, even if I still think raw spinach is an affront to humanity. It’s just really, really hard to get decently-cooked vegetables, and I understand that’s partially a cultural thing.
