Hi everyone! I’m applying RD to the College of Arts and Sciences, and I’m a little confused about the “Why Cornell” supplement. The prompt says to explain why “the depth, breadth, and flexibility of our curriculum are ideally suited to exploring the areas of study that excite you.” I can talk a lot about the depth and flexibility, but I’m not really sure what to say for breadth, other than the usual stuff about distribution requirements and the importance of a broad liberal arts education. Is it important to give specifics about this? Thanks so much!
When you have questions about Why Us for 3 tippy tops, it may be time to revisit their sites, etc, and figure why you have selected these, what it was, if the reasons are solid. Try it.
Thanks for the advice, @lookingforward. The problem is that many of my reasons for liking Cornell have to do with the clubs, community service opportunities, etc. I’m not sure how to address “the depth, breadth, and flexibility of our curriculum,” unless I stretch the definition of “curriculum” to include extracurricular activities. Other than my major, interesting classes, and research opportunities, do you think there is anything else I should talk about? Thank you so much for your help!
You need to think about what is unique about Cornell’s academics and give specific examples. What can you do at Cornell that you couldn’t do at another university, for example? All schools have community service, clubs, etc. What is unique about Cornell’s? And, since the question is about curriculum, you should focus on that, not extracurriculuars in your response.
