A very touching story.
Wow, very powerful and so sad!
One of my best friends is a redhead and studied French for years thru HS. She was selected to do an international student exchange to Japan! She had some trouble adjusting but made lifelong friends with her host family and has visited them multiple times in the decades since. She learned enough Japanese to get by and knows more Japanese than French.
I was an exchange student to South America. The most I had to worry about was possibly having a car accident or getting sick. It makes me furious and ashamed that students who come to my country are at risk of being gunned down. It’s horrifying. That poor family.
Thank you for sharing. I spent my elementary school years in Pakistan due to my father’s job at the time. I read this in my hotel room ( traveling home from a business trip today) and it brought me to tears.
I remember when that happened. But recently have been wondering how to maybe bring a girl to the U.S. (from Afghanistan) as an exchange student, so will check out the program mentioned in the article.
