Why did I get better at school?

I remember when I was younger, I was placed under a variety of special educational programs: IEP, tutoring, etc. No matter how hard I tried, I was always at the bottom of the class – literally, I remember nothing really making sense. I was known as “that stupid kid.” However, when 7th grade hit I started ‘getting it’ and performing well, and since then I’ve performed extremely well. I am now soon to finish up my sophomore year of College with a 4.0 GPA, something at the time when I was younger I thought was never really possible.

Any ideas as to why I struggled so much when I was younger? I find it pretty puzzling that I struggled so much, given my current academic standing today. Any suggestions?

There could be a whole host of reasons (ex. you matured later than average and are better able to study now, you grew out of some difficulties, the assistance you got and tools you learned in programs when you were younger paid off etc.). I know a number of students who struggled when they were young only to have things “click in” when they were older. You are fortunate and I hope you keep working hard and achieving success.
