@par271828nt thank you your response is so nice I am hoping for the best as well. fingers crossed and hopefully the process is nicer to you / your family
Hi @xsi103920 ,
I hope the fact that you are waitlisted at one of your target schools means you are at least “in the range” of what they are looking for. So if you have a good spread of schools, you’ll get something you like. Hopefully. Hang in there for a few more days!
May or may not apply to your situation, but in a group conference call with the senior AO team at Yale, one of the observations made by the AO’s was that some of the essays were too “polished” and read like something a 50 year old professional would write and not an 18 year old. The whole package has to ring true from the grades, activities, LoR’s and essays. If you do take a gap year and reapply, I think you have to relook at every component of the subjective items in your app. You clearly have the academic stat’s to be competitive.
Agree with what @BKSquared quoted. I have heard this several times before.
The essays are there also to tell the AO about yourself, your true voice has to come through.
@BKSquared @par271828nt All the feedback / commentary was more to evaluate how good different essays were to pick as my Common App (I started out with 4 / 5) and do grammatical / structural editing but all the writing was still raw and in the style of the writing I submitted / placed for my writing comps. Personally, I felt it represented the trauma I went through and what I learned from it, as well as how that related to my interests. I definitely will take a careful evaluation and look if I am forced to take a gap year and re-apply, my academic stats won’t be too much of a concern and personally I’ve invested so much into and placed at / been the leader in activities that reallly feel true to my major and who I am so I will consider adding on work experience, using different essays maybe, asking different teachers for LORs etc. Thanks for all the advice - appreciated from a super stressed student
Hello all,
I hope it pleases the people who responded negatively to my what I now see is rather pretentious and boastful original post that I have not been admitted to any colleges so far, setting a record for my highschool and simultaneously managing to not get into safeties and wasting all my money.
Goodbye for now. I hope everyone else has a nice rest of the week.
There is always the option of community college, get your associates degree and transfer to the state flagship university. You will be just as successful.
@NJCity In family of people who literally only went to Harvard and Princeton, I will be financially cut off and have 0 savings to be able to afford community college or a state university. I will not be able to receive a scholarship because I will probably be shipped off to some strange military academy to punish me for my shortcomings despite a life of privilege. All the businesses and projects I am working on with the United Nations and government will be cut off.
At this point, I don’t see a path for me to attend university in the fall. I totally recognize CC as a valid option for a lot of people, but not for me.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I hope you stay healthy, safe (especially during this pandemic) and have a nice day
@xsi103920 where else did u apply?
@UGG2023 i only have NYU left
How about a gap year during which time you do some things that might help you when you apply again next year? This might feel like the end of the world but it isn’t. You will get through this. This isn’t the end of your story.

No I mean what are all the other schools you applied to?

@UGG2023 the Ivies, NYU, USC, UCLA, UCSB, Tufts, Swarthmore, some safeties.
What are the “problematic reasons” that you believe your GC sabotaged you?
@NJCity A lot of chaos surrounding me staying / not staying at the school and me missing classes but getting high marks because I had to deal with seeking for emancipation / and limiting the involvement of family in my school due to assault. The counsellor had very little empathy and or belief in the situation because I of the way I react to trauma. (This is my belief and opinion.)
i think i saw this movie. however, the GC spin is an entirely new angle.
… well I’m glad my story is so (stereotypically) tragic.
