So am I ivy league material?

you have to specify which college you want to apply to

College of Arts and Sciences

which major? you’ll have an easier time gaining acceptance to some obscure program than to, say, general bio, which is saturated with wannabe premeds

Cognitive Sciences (1st choice)
Biological sciences (2nd choice)

providing your essays and recommendations are solid, I think you would have a great shot at your first choice and a good shot at your second. the essay topic you described, about going home to nigeria – is that for the common app, or for the cornell supplement?

oh, and I’d also focus on improving your ACT score over your SAT since you seem to have done better on the first

hello fellow Nigerian. Igbo or Yuroba? Igbo woman here. You’ll find that Cornell is indeed the Nigerian Ivy 'cause there are a lot of us on campus.
But I don’t think asking people online, people who aren’t admissions officers and don’t have a say in if you get in or not. What they could do for you is give you advice on how to manage your senior year based on their experiences and give you more information about Cornell.

There is no way some kid online can give you chances, so I always say don’t waste your time trying that. Apply to any school you want. There’s no need to ask anyone if you should, anyone other than yourself, because there is nothing worse you can face than rejection and you will get over that quickly.

If you have any questions about my experiences at Cornell, feel free to PM me. :)

Im Igbo…thanks for the help

I definitely think you have a shot and should apply. Best of luck!

go for it!

yep cornell loves nigerians…and since you’re from texas you have a greater chance…

your scores are not too low…your APs supplement that

I think you have a good shot.

It seems weird to me that a school with 3 shootings/ year has all these APs… wouldn’t the money be better spent on student safety… not that this is relevant at all

you are right hpmbs…but i think it’s because it is a school in HISD (the largest school district in the USA)

HISD has special magnet/charter schools that are sort of like prep schools but through public education…

cornell also considers previous applicants from your school…lets say that your school has had several people go to cornell or apply…if you are as good as they are you’ll get in, and since you’re ranked #1 i say you have a good chance at getting in anywhere!

thanks for the comments…and my school is in HISD

You have a very good chance at acceptance at any of the Cornell colleges that you think are the best fit for you, including Arts and Sciences. If you have an interest , then you should definitely apply.
