Why do admitted students/prospective students refuse to ask questions?

i’m an admissions ambassador for bu so i stay in the admissions office waiting rooms to answer anything you could possibly want to know about the university (except for my gpa & sat scores and whether or not i think you’ll get in, those aren’t need to know bits of information).

the office gets super busy around this time of year with spring breaks, acceptance letters going out, and juniors visiting colleges so there are people in the office waiting for numerous different things but THEY DON’T HAVE QUESTIONS. i can only recite my life story and indicate why i love bu so many times before someone needs to ask me a question.

if you were going to spend 4 years of your life somewhere wouldn’t you be curious? don’t you want to be informed about the schools before paying close to $100 to apply?

if any of you visit bu ask the ambassadors in the office questions!!! it makes us happy and gives us a high … otherwise i don’t recommend waiting in the office, wait outside on the steps.

that is all.

i’ve been in that little office…

the admissions office waiting rooms?

i don’t think they’re little

lol yea i guess you’re right…it’s just that there were a TON of people squished in there waiting for the next tour to start or something.

it was like that today … maybe 40 people and no one wanted to talk to me!! i was going to go insane.

did you visit recently? did you have an ambassador to talk to?! [i hope you say yes] if it was before president’s day is february i don’t think there was one since we were short on staff

lol sorry to hear that =(

no, this was about 2 years ago…but i did the high school honors thing at bu this summer and i loooved it and i’m pretty sure i’ll be at bu next year

the thing is that maybe kids dont think that theyre going to get accurate information about some of the things (i.e. social life, party scene, that kinda stuff) from someobdy working in the BU office, and can probably get a better representation elsewhere.

other questions like programs and stuff should be asked, but with the internet there is so much information oftentimes the questions can be answered with a simple google search

the thing is, we’re students ourselves. all ambassadors are undergrad students & we have to tell them what year we are & what college we’re in before we say anything else. some students ask about sex life, the party scene, food, the campus, classes, greek life, and others are mute. part of our creed is to give our honest opinion on things & we volunteer [long application & interviewing process] to do it because we love bu, we’re not paid to.

why google it when you have a student experiencing bu life, right there for you? the internet doesn’t have the first hand experience.

I had a similar experience, but I visited in summer. There were six students there, but they had a lot to tend to, so they said little.

how about you answer my question on here! if i’m rejected as a transfer student, can i send my spring transcript in and appeal the decision? i believe i can…the email i got back said it’s not advised to appeal…though it didn’t say no.

in the summer we’re not ambassing :frowning: since we’re all home or working or something else thrilling.

you could appeal the decision … i just don’t know the statistics or the number of students who did so successfully. but yep, you can appeal it
