<p>I speak German fluently, maybe a little rusty, and I can read and write French, but I am still curious as why colleges even ask these questions. Any answers?</p>
<p>Could it be an alternate means of fulfilling a foreign language requirement or recommendation for admission if the high school foreign language course work is absent (e.g. you are a heritage speaker, or went to a language immersion elementary school, or immigrated from a country where you went to school in a non-English language)?</p>
<p>It’s a part of who you are, I guess. Maybe it’s just to make your life harder:)</p>
