Well finance isnt a problem for me and my family! I can literally pay for all 4 years no problem! And well my recent ACT score was 24 so idk if that’s good or not and I’m a boy!

24 is above-average at the 75%tile, so you do have a pretty good chance at the least selective schools.

Can you give me names of a few colleges I might have a shot at? That would be helpful!

Go find the thread for B students- use Search for it. Youcan also find a college guide- Fiske, Princeton Review, etc- these are the ways so any kids identify schools. Then check the colleges web sites.

Well I did check out A+ schools for B students and I found most of the schools I’m applying to on there so yea!!!

Well, right off the top of my head? Arizona, Arizona State, University of Kansas, University of Nebraska, University of Wyoming, University of Montana.

You’d need better test scores for the more selective LACs, but you could take a look at the schools on the “colleges that change lives” website. Some of those are more selective, but some are not.

those are just some jumping off points.

do you intend to retake the ACT after some test prep?

Yea I do plan to retake it in May! I’m going to try to aim for at least a 26 or a 27!

Well, that may change the picture for you, a bit, with the LACs. I don’t know about the state schools.

Anyway, delve deeper and look into all the places you might be interested in going. Since you are full pay, you will be at an advantage in the OOS admissions game for the flagships, who all really need money.

University of Oregon and Oregon State, might also be interesting, interested.

So you’re saying that I have an advantage over all the other OOS students if I can pay full for all 4 years?

Well, you have an advantage as a full pay student in OOS admissions. It’s not over “all others,” because there are people they will take anyway for scores and whatnot, but they like full pays. It is why they take OOS.

But, it doesn’t mean you can get into UMich or UVA, just that “all other things being equal,” if you know what I mean. You will also have a bit of an advantage in schools where the population is into the 60% female range, for the same reason a young woman will have an edge at a tech school. But, it’s not like they will take you if you are wayyyy outside the range.

Yeah I know I’m not that far out of the range! And do you know any colleges where females are more dominant so that I could take a look at them?

Bezan, since women make up more than 60% of the college graduating class in any given year, many are female heavy.

You might post that question in the parents forum, there are a lot experts on there that like to talk about the minutia. But, if you have access to the full subsciption for USNews and World Reports college compass? You can get all sorts of this information on there. I think you can get it on collegeboard, too? But I’m not 100% sure.

Good luck to you. You have many options. Oh, and keep working towards better grades. The better study habits you develop now, the better you will do when you get there. :)

Ok thank you so much! :)

If you want to search for colleges that accept the ranges of scores you have then use this websites college finder: [College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/)

To improve your chances you can also more easily raise your standardize test scores. If you have a lot of ECs and pretty high test scores with and upward trend, I’m sure you write an essay about being smart and lazy but maturing and improve across the board. Best of Luck

I’ve already done that! Most of them say anywhere from 40-70% match!!!

You can speak to your guidance counselor about taking additional classes online to raise your GPA. If you’re just shy of a 3.0, a single summer school class may help you. Try to raise your GPA to a 3.0. If you’re a full pay, you’ll have plenty of options.

Woah woah wait a minute! So you are saying there is still time to raise my GPA if I can take a couple of classes, especially AP, to boost my GPA? That would be very helpful! I’m going to email my counselor asking about that!

Try to schedule an appointment with your guidance counselor ASAP! Let her know of your situation and what you want to accomplish. You don’t have a lot of time, so act quickly. I hope you haven’t missed the registration deadline. If so, ask about summer school at high school or summer school at your local community college for high school credit. If you need more than 1 class for a GPA boost, CC is the way to go.
Good Luck!

I’m actually a junior right now so I still have time! Thanks for the heads up man!

No problem! My son was in your shoes last year. Don’t give up!
You may want to complete this prior to the start of your senior year, especially if you plan to apply early action or decision. It’s a great way to start your senior year. Good Luck!
