<p>I have not seen a pattern of girls choosing colleges closer to home.</p>
<p>Among my kids’ friends, there seem to be as many guys as girls at nearby colleges, and as many girls as guys who chose to go farther away.</p>
<p>In my own family, my son chose our state university, less than an hour from home, and my daughter chose a different schools that’s more than a six-hour drive away. This didn’t seem unusual to anyone in the family.</p>
<p>My less than non-random sample of high achieving female seniors at my S’s HS (he’s a Jr) indicates a strong desire to go AWAY to school. We’re in CA so that means the NE for this pack of girls.</p>
<p>My S, on the other hand, appears to be California-centric. So my task is to at least open his eyes to the world beyond CA. It’s not like he hasn’t traveled. He’s visited many regions of the US, including Alaska, and also been fortunate enough to visit 7 foreign countries.</p>
