Why Do Parents Let Their Kids Have so Much Say?

You’ve not mentioned any cousins who are blonde.

@Hunt, you missed one point (the one I pointed out): someone will say that if you’re not blonde, the door will shut on you having certain types of fun.

You missed:

Being blond is only important if it impacts one’s ability to get an IB job.

The man on the street might not care if you’re blond, but the people who do the hiring certainly care.

Thank you @Hunt.

Please post that every time people get into the silly jag about elites versus non-elites.

Right on, Hunt :))

Unfortunately, in the real world, for an affluent class family, the cost of dying your hair blond may be $100K of debt.

By the way, it has been empirically proven that redheads have the most fun.

You people are funny.

Blondes have more fun, especially if they do not go to a school like Colgate. In fact, being blonde can open many doors.

A million years ago I turned down Cornell, Colgate, Hobart, Union, for a WAY better climate - in Bryn Mawr.

Then I finally figured it out and ditched all that for Colorado.

We eliminated the entire NE in our D’s college search. Whoever said once you live in the sun, its hard to go back, was right. It makes a HUGE difference in quality of life. Would never go back.

Also, back when I applied, Colgate was kind of a safety school.

So is University of Chicago now “where fun goes to dye”?

@furrydog, I think we need to think about whether fun is the proper goal. Not everyone wants to have fun.

@moooop‌, I believe you need to be platinum blonde for IB.

Don’t you realize that it isn’t just the hair color but the highlights. The perfection of the highlights are only provided at a handful of salons in the entire country. W/o the highlights you are just a blonde and your future and career are severely limited.

…If I were paying for everything, then of course I would have the major say! I’m not going to spend thousands and thousands of $, just for them to decide that they don’t like a specific college…If they want to pick, then they can pay for it by themselves, or use the funds from a 529 account that they contribute their own money to; although if I set that up and added most of the money, then I would still pick.

One more for the list: a blonde who does not have more fun is not a “true blonde.”
