Why do socks hurt?

^ How do you know if big toe is causing the problem. Could it be that the little toe of one foot is causing the problem and the next time he wears that sock, it happens to be on the other foot, thus revealing that there is hole. If he wears that sock on the original foot, the hole would be on little toe and not reveal itself or that your H doesn’t care.

Have you labeled your H socks, L1x and R1, L2 and R2x where x= hole?

Due to extremely sensitive skin (even polyester thread used to sew hems or seams in 100% cotton clothes drives me nuts), I’ve found wearing just about everything (t-shirts, boxer shorts, sweatshirts, etc.) inside-out is more comfortable…it keeps the rough seams away from the skin. How bizarre it is that we make clothes that are more comfortable worn exactly the opposite way they were designed to be worn. If some hip-hop star would start a fad where pants were worn inside-out, I’d be a happy guy.

Long Prime - you have me totally confused ;)

I know that it is his big toe because sometimes there is a hole after just one wear. I am not kidding :)

I have just purchased Thorlo socks on-line – 4 pair for $36 delivered to our home! I’m hoping that they will be comfortable & keep me from getting blisters. I am willing to wear them inside out if necessary, just tired of blisters on the heel of my feet. I hope I can wear them with my existing shoes or I will have to go shopping for new ones.

I have purchased socks that my big toe went through with the 1st wearing as well. It was the very soft chenille ones that they were selling at Costco last year. I had purchased them from Birkenstocks for an exhorbitant price & returned them because they didn’t hold up.

K: Once the socks off my feet, I have know idea which sock came from which foot. Do you have a method that determines which foot belongs to which sock? Perhaps you watch him take off his shoes, revealing the hole? :)

I am just being humorous. Somewhere told/read/ that the thinnest skin of our body is around the ankles and the thickess skin is our souls (really our soles). I know that wounds around the ankles take a long time to heal because of the skin’s thinness and lack of circulation.

yes, I watch DH take off his shoes and then walk in his socks around the house :)

sock fetish :0

My wife is always on me to watch my intake of sugars and starches. Men have no peace. :(

My sock issues seem to run deeper than I thought. I never know which sock to wear with what shoe. I only like anklet socks because I also have tactile issues with anything around my calves. It either has to be low or high. I am a nurse and on my feet for a good portion of a 12 hr shift. I always think my feet look dumb with a low cut sock in anything but a sneaker. Does anyone have any insight into this pressing matter?

Kelowna, my guess would be that your husband pulls his socks very tight, so that the knit is stretched over the big toe. If he puts them on and then pulls the big toe a little loose, it shouldn’t give out as quickly.

If he has feet greater than size 12, you should also look into getting him larger socks–REI carries socks in sizes and I’m sure other stores do as well–so that the socks don’t HAVE to be pulled so tight over the toe.

My youngest daughter had issues with seams and tags. She used to cut the seams off the socks as soon as she opened the bags. Needless to say, those were useless. Wish I had know about the inside out method then! I noticed recently that there are tagless t shirts, etc available. Guess my kid wasnt the only one with sock/tags/seams issues. I love bamboo socks!

AND Oh how about TOE SOCKS! How miserable were/are they!

Kelowna: Long toenails and/or shoes with shallow toe boxes contribute to holes in the socks.

I love toe socks, sistersunnie…feet stay warmer in winter, cooler in summer…very cozy.

Are toe socks those socks that are like gloves for feet?

Wright socks are hands down the best ever. The crew length is great for winter the anklet for summer…if you actually wear shoes in summer. I also have a pair woven from bamboo fibre…I think they are called “green socks.” They are dreamy. Nothing makes me happy in quite the same way as donning a warm pair of clean socks and putting my feet up to enjoy a cup of tea. Here is my on the spot ode to the humble sock:

Socks do more than cover my feet
In winter time for a special treat
I’ll put em on and they’ll do their part
to warm and comfort me; soul and heart

Yes, mafool, toesocks are like gloves for the feet. These are the BEST, wool, cozy, come in sizes and colors…hold up really well: [Sock Dreams ~ Terry Loop Wool Walking Socks](http://www.sockdreams.com/_shop/pages/socks_detail_ProductID_1227.php)

But I prefer mittens instead of gloves  They are warmer.

Sock Dreams is the BEST. I bought 7 different pairs and have worn 5 so far. After being miserable with socks for years I love them. I tried all different kinds and they’ve all been good so far.
Thanks Lorelei!!!

I’m happy with the Thorlo socks I just got–two pairs apiece of tennis & walking socks. They’re very comfy & supportive (I have a high arch & needed padding for the heels). Best of all, if you bought 3, you got 1 free & shipping was only $.99 (tho rest of US is free).

Kelowna, the reason toe socks keep your feet warmer is that your feet sweat in your shoes/boots, and the socks and material around each toe keeps them from sticking to each other and being clammy, assuming your socks are a wicking material. I used to wear layers of socks, but the wool toe socks are so comfortable and cozy. IMHO and FWIW
