Why do sorority girls wear fanny packs?

I’m planning to rush this fall, and I’m just so confused. Why do they wear fanny packs they don’t seem cute or stylish at all… is this required?

None of the sorority girls at my university wear fanny packs… Are you sure they didn’t come back from some kind of event?

They usually come with an event, like certain philanthropy events…

I can guarantee (or almost, at least at my uni) they don’t just wear them all the time…

maybe it was just the pledges? They might be required to carry a bunch of stuff to have on hand for the sisters and maybe that just makes it easier for them? For example we used to make the pledges in my frat always carry a pen, a bottle opener, gum, and condoms in case we ever wanted one of the items.

I’ve never seen any sorority girls with fanny packs. Most of the ones at my school wear fluorescent rhinestone encrusted tracksuits. They look like college aged Betty Whites.

with everyone else, my school didn’t have this either, if anything it usually was for concerts (IE something like dayglow) where girls not in sororities exactly wore them.

It’s usually for pledging. Some pledges are made to carry around items for their sisters and some sororities have them carry them in fanny packs. These are usually called “pledge packs.”

Yeah I mean at football games and stuff. But regardless of whether you’re at or coming from an event I just don’t understand why you’d dress up for a game and look cute and then put a fanny pack on

They don’t require them at all but from what I’ve seen, it is for pledges or certain events. Mostly events. The people at football games are probably required to wear them somehow?

Why you hating on fanny packs anyway? They’re super convenient.

We tend to wear them for more fratty philanthropy events, or like someone else said to day glow/life in colour type things.

They are super convenient for those things. We don’t just rock them to class everyday haha

It might just be in ‘style’ …

They are perfect for holding cell phone, keys, wallet, kleenex, lube, lipstick, condoms, etc., esp. when wearing a skirt with no pockets on a “night out.”
