that is wrong the way you phrased it. the most popular major is biology or something related.

To posters wanting medical school without the 3-4 years of undergrad experience required, please reread my #32 post. There is time enough to study medicine and work; college is a time to explore/learn all sorts of things for your personal enrichment/develoment, there is more to life than one’s profession, even if that profession takes vast amounts of your time. Remember, premed is an intention, not a major.

I also doubt music is the most popular major, although it is just as valid as any other major for physicians. I do know of physicians who also have a rock(?) band that performs at some events, I doubt they were undergrad music majors, however.

A major in linguistics can get you into quite a lot of jobs! Plus, there are few real linguistics departments, so the job market is not too bad: http://www.lingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149

Because the majors are in demand by incoming freshmen. It also has to with the fact that college students are often told to follow their passions, which is not necesssarly the best thing to do if they aren’t attending a top school. A useless major from the ivies opens doors no matter what because those students are smart enough to pick up the work on the fly, while a non technical major from an average school will not be sought after for obvious reasons.

If you be really, really quiet, you can almost hear John Locke spinning in his grave.

You can use any kind of degree and become a teacher. Not that you would want to, unless you enjoy lighting birthday candles for the heat and eating cereal for dinner. (Just kidding. Honestly, I’d love to be a teacher. Just not in my highschool.)
