As they said when you choose between mail and online for the SATs, they preferred electronically to conserve paper and costs.

What about APs???

As they said when you choose between mail and online for the SATs, they preferred electronically to conserve paper and costs.

What about APs???

Million. Dollar. Question.
I’d think it’d be easier to just put everything online for everyone–but the more money they can get out of us, the better.

So that they can make us anxious enough to call and pay to find out our scores

Less pressure because people don’t need to sign up for retakes quickly after the tests perhaps?

General laziness and greed maybe

Most SAT/Subject Test registration is done online, which makes releasing scores online easier (release the scores of a particular registration number to the one that was assigned to that online account).

As for AP tests, registration isn’t done online, so imagine the logistical mess that would come from trying to link every kid’s AP number to a nonexistent online account.

314159265: Honestly, it wouldn’t be horrible. To sign in, use your AP number as a username, and use a four-digit PIN as a password. Hypothetically, one would choose their PIN on one answer sheet (just like how they bubble their address and college and whatnot on only one answer sheet).

^Actually 314159265 has a point…

Or even using your AP number as the username and the last four digits of your SSN - Keasbey has a point.

Yeah, I agree with 324159265 and ZombieDante…also, the SAT is just one test, while people taking AP’s can take up to 7 or 8.

DasSuiGeneris - people can take up to three SAT subject tests in one sitting, but all of those scores are returned. It would be the same process for collaborating multiple AP scores onto the same results page. I honestly don’t see how putting AP results online for students would be any more infrastructurally challenging than putting SAT scores online. AP scores are already put online for teachers if they organize everything by roster - now that is more of a hassle than putting scores up for each individual student.

NYEM, I like the idea of the last four digits of the SSN, but that requires students to put their SSN (currently, it’s optional) - and for people who didn’t include their SSN in the past, this would create a problem with combining score reports between years. That’s why the College Board instructs you not to include your SSN if you didn’t include it in previous years; score reports may not be automatically combined otherwise.

Or they could just have people sign up for the AP tests online like the SAT and send the answer documents to the schools.

almost there - I think that would make it far too hard to ensure that all students register for their exams on time and properly. I can just foresee tons of incorrect and forgotten registrations. Not every student is as proactive as the average CCer.

That takes away a lot of the power from the AP Coordinator and puts it in the hands of students and parents. I don’t think that’s feasible.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE! Down with CB!

More people take the SAT than the AP tests. People seem to be able to figure out how to sign up for it on time and correctly.

Yes, but the SAT isn’t so intrinsically linked to specific classes as AP exams are. It could be a potential hassle to ensure that students sign up for the right teacher and exam. I can honestly see people signing up for the wrong government / Spanish / calculus / physics / English exams. A lot of schools don’t even name their AP classes properly. Mine referred to AP English Language as “AP Eng Compo.”

I can just foresee too many potential issues to make signing up for AP exams online the best idea.

In my opinion, doing online registration is feasible only if each school had its own website run by the AP Coordinator. But then, the work that gets put into getting the site set up and everything in between, like making accounts for all the kids, (especially for schools with 1000+ AP tests like mine) would be more of a hassle than doing paper registrations.
