Why does it say "accepted" next to Stafford loans?

I received a financial aid package for a school today that I will not be choosing. The package offered Staffords and a Parent plus loan. Next to Parent Plus it says “offered”, but next to Staffords it says “accepted”. I didn’t accept these loans. Anyone know if that’s normal?

I would call the school & ask them why they accepted my loans. This is not standard, to my knowledge. It’s possible their computer system is auto-accepting Stafford loans. It’s also possible that the school accepts Stafford loans if you indicated the willingness to borrow on your FAFSA. Even if they did that, though, you would still need to complete entrance counseling & an MPN to actually get the loan. However, if the school’s computer system automatically reports accepted loans to the government Direct Loan system & then you decide to go to another school, instead … it might possibly cause some headaches in terms of getting the accepted loans canceled at this school before the new school can award you loans (due to annual borrowing limits). It’s best to call & find out what’s going on.

Thanks, I will have to call on Monday.

Good idea. Don’t sweat it, though … there is plenty of time to get everything sorted out!

Thanks! I don’t want it to screw anything up. I can be that easy to accept, right? I don’t think I clicked accept award.

You could have accepted it by accident. No biggie. Like I said … LOTS of time to get everything squared away. :)
