All the rest of my colleges (LACs+Pton) say they’ll announce on April 1.

Bc they’re awesome. They also have less applicants usually. but mostly bc they’re awesome.

Also, because they are competing with all the rest of your colleges who announce later. If they come out with their decisions two weeks earlier, that’s 50% more time to do a full-court recruiting press, which is pretty meaningful in this context.

Why doesn’t everyone do it? Generally, they do. Relatively few colleges actually make it to April 1 before notifying applicants, and those tend to be the swamped-in-applications elites. Unless you have only applied to Amherst, Williams, and Swarthmore, you will probably hear from many of the LACs before April 1.

Maybe because MIT has an admitted students weekend (Campus Preview Weekend, or CPW) that’s like the second weekend of April, and they want to give you time to make travel plans. Just a thought :)

no it probably cuz they have like only 15000 apps versus Harvard which has nearly double. The MIT decision should come out earlier if they were moving at the same pace as other ivies. They just take time with each app

I don’t think the volume of applications has much effect on the date. Nor do I believe they are trying to gain some advantage in recruiting. Two weeks difference won’t make a big change in pace of review or in yield.

I would rather see some symbolism involved and the school’s tradition in setting its own admission standards and policies independently of any other schools, especially Ivies: open early admission, no legacy advantage, no recruiting advantage, no common app, no likely letters, full committee review for every applicant, required interviews, CPW, admission on Pi day all set MIT apart.

A recurring feature of the “brass rat” ring issued to MIT undergrads and redesigned every year is the beaver cra**ing on Ivy leaves. MIT doesn’t really care what other schools do.

The “brass rat” alone is a sufficient reason for me to want to attend MIT.

"The “brass rat” alone is a sufficient reason for me to want to attend MIT. "

Absolutely!

when will the results be released then?

From what I’ve heard mid-March, meaning 3/14, 3/15, 3/16-ish.

Heck, I’m really grateful for them releasing it that early. It shows how hard-working/efficient they are.

Plus, it also helps me from being completely overwhelmed by heartbreak and multiple rejections 2 weeks later.

Nobody (including the MIT admissions officers) knows yet.

The decision date will likely be announced soon – probably within the next week. Historically, MIT has released decisions between around March 15-20.

Either the 14th of the 21st. They always release the decisions on Saturdays.

They didn’t post EA decisions on a Sat this year, so nothing is for sure

I’m taking about the RD, check Matt’s posts, and you’ll notice a pattern: Saturday is the day decisions come out.

That was also true for EA in the past years. My point is that pattern was broken, so it is not unreasonable to think that RD pattern may also be broken.

It is more or less unimportant though, they will come when they come.

I’m guessing its released on the 21st.

3/14= Pi day.

Of course MIT would release then :)

they may be a bit later this year due to volume - BUT Caltech just mailed admission notices (and rejections) and will e-mail applicants on Saturday - I can’t believe MIT will be far behind

God! I hope it’s Pi day. can’t wait any longer. but the break is coming. will this affect?
