Why does the Architecture Major have it's own Catergory?

Why does the Architecture Major have it’s own catergory under College Majors?
I mean, isn’t Architecture a sub-catergory of something else? Like engineering or the arts? For that matter, why are there so few groupings under college majors; especially in the academic fields like mathematics and languages/linguistics?

Please see the “featured thread” at the top of this forum called “New Architecture Major Forum”: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=284445</a> for a discussion that answers your query.

As described there, in the past couple of years alone on CC, there were hundreds of threads relating to architecture which thus warranted grouping them in one place. Further, architecture is a major with specialized requirements for admissions, unlike many liberal arts degree programs. Colleges for art, theater, music, engineering, and architecture are examples of specialized admissions processes with their own additional aspects beyond the regular college selection and admissions process. But any topic that has hundreds of threads often causes CC to create its own forum so that all the threads can be found in one place. Many of the architecture threads, but not all, that previously existed were in the Arts Majors forums but not grouped. Some were in other fora.

architecture can’t really be categorized as engineering or the arts. that’s why it needs its own category…it’s a unique field
