Relative to other engineering majors, Materials engineering has a really high admit rate. In the previous year, 39.2% year were accepted and in the year before that, it was 65%.
Is it actually easier to be accepted as this major, or is it just that the people that apply tend to be super qualified?
Someone answer my question please lol.
If you look at most schools, the admission rate for materials engineering tends to be higher than for other engineering disciplines. From what I can gather, materials engineering is just not that popular of a choice of major. Not many high school students really know what it is and many have not even heard of it. Aside from that, while companies do need materials engineers, most usually don’t need that many. The materials engineering program tends to be one of the smallest engineering programs in the engineering department, as it is a small department at UCLA. The materials engineering program at UCLA is supposed to be very good. It is in the top 10 or something for materials engineering majors.
