<p>Has its standards so low? I’m very surprised because its not like Wisconsin has a bad public school system that they feel the need to set standards so low. I lived there for about 6 months, just to experience a new place since I was out of college for a year after graduating in 2006. Each school has their own standard. You have to be in the top 40% of the class, if you are, you don’t need SAT/ACT scores. If you don’t rank in the top 40% they give you the option to take their college placement test for consideration for admissions or have a ACT scores over 24. Even then if anything is still to low they sometimes will admit you, if they see that you have the ability to adapt and do the college work and improve.</p>
<p>I’m just curious why they do this, no other colleges do. It gives you many chances to attend college. Maybe it sets its standards low so students don’t feel like they wont get an higher education because they dont get accepted, and to increase the amount of students with degrees. University of Wisconsin at whitewater has one of the lowest standards I’ve seen among the UW’s and that’s why most residents attend after graduation, They also have a very low tuition for even out of state students including room and board, food, parking its all less then 7,000. After being there for 6 months its def to cold for someone like me who’s been in Florida since I was nine. But I’m not letting the cold get to me because I’m more the likely heading back to Carthage College In Kenosha if not FSU in Tallahassee. :-)</p>

New Freshman Admission Requirements</p>
<p>To be admitted as a new freshman to UW-Whitewater, applicants must complete the required 17 high school course requirements. Then, an applicant should possess one of the following two criteria:</p>
<p>Rank in the upper 40% of your high school class
~~ OR ~~</p>
<p>Possess a Combination Score* of 100 or more
*Combination Scores are comprised of a student’s rank in class added to the national percentile of the ACT Composite or SAT total scores. For example, a student who ranks in the 50% of the high school class should have an ACT Composite of 20 (national percentile for a 20 is 50%) to be admitted. 50 + 50 = 100, so the student would be admitted.</p>

<p>Whitewater Does Not Use the GPA for Admission</p>
<p>GPAs are difficult to understand. With so many different scales being used throughout the country, plus the inability to claim that a GPA means the same thing from one school to another, there is simply no good measure upon which it can be determined what a “good GPA” might be. As such, UW-Whitewater uses predominantly class rank to determine a student’s academic prowess in the high school.</p>
