Why does upper level Engineering cost the most?

I knew I would be paying about a thousand more than last term because Im now considered a “junior.” But now the pdf that they’ve sent out says that I’ll be paying $8058 per term for tuition (being in state) which is by far the most expensive for instate undergrads.

Is there a reason for this? I always expected to be paying more but I figured around the $7000 mark like last years upper division engineers. Now that its about $8000 (and will most likely only continue to rise) I’m very dissapointed.

So why the engineers? Is there a reason we get charged a lot more?

A lot more resources are available/needed for engineering undergrads. I actually remember reading somewhere (it was one of the budget deparment studies) that the university spends around 4 times the money per engineering student compared to a typical LSA student and 1.8 times that of a Ross student. Think about it, they are maintaining a campus for ~3000 kids vs ~20000 kids. Do you also notice that everything on north campus classrooms/lecture hall are a lot more cutting edge/state of the art compared to the stuff in LSA? Engineering professors are also a lot more well-paid than an average LSA professor.
Factor in the cost, be thankful you aren’t paying 4 times the price LSA students pay.

lol i don’t know why its ridiculously expensive…even more than Ross. My roommate paid close to $18,000 last term for upper level engineering, OOS. He’s just glad he’s graduating soon.

STARING AT MY OUT OF STATE UPPER LEVEL ENGINEERING TUITION BILL -gasp-

$ 19626…

that’s slightly less than twice my total income this summer after tax…
