Is it really true that people are waitlisted because theyre “overqualified?” And how would you show your interest in the school if there are no supplements?

You show your interest by applying ED :-)

They had been trying (successfully) to improve their rankings, and in order to do that they have to become more selective and have a higher yield. The way they went about this was to waitlist many many applicants and see who agreed to be on the waitlist before really deciding who to admit. Most people opt-off the waitlist so they become instant rejections boosting their selectivity. Those on the waitlist are more likely to attend if admitted so it boost their yield also.

I’ve noticed that they have gotten a little better in the last few years.

WashU wants kids with high stats who want them (and won’t turn them down for a slot in the Ancient Eight). Besides ED, attend the regional rep preso, visit/tour, let your counselor know that it is your #1 choice, etc.

WashU closed the waitlist very quickly this year and admitted very few if I am not mistaken.
