I have noticed that no community colleges have fraternities and sororities. Why is that? Do you think that there should be fraternities and sororities at a community colleges? Why does universities have fraternities and sororities and community colleges doesn’t?
The main thing I can think of is that co-habitating is a major component of greek life and CCs are much less residential than 4 year schools.
They do exist in some places: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=99058
Commuter students who predominate at most community colleges tend to have established social lives that they continue to participate in, reducing the “need” for college-based social activities for them.
Commuter students tend to focus on getting into their 4-year schools, so the focus is VERY different.
CC students tend to focus on getting the best grades possible and, going to work to save money for those expensive universities.
Most CC students live at home, with their parents, and hang out with their high school friends.
Sororities and fraternities work better at 4-year schools since the students typically live on-campus, come from different cities, and know very few students.
Does this make sense to you?
