Why dont I receive mail from colleges?

I am a freshman in high school and I’ve become intrested in looking at colleges. Most of my friends have told me that they’ve received mail from Universities but I haven’t. My question is why? I get good grades and some of them are even better than their’s. Is it because I haven’t taken the PSATs but they have? How can I get mail from Stanford University? Thanks:)

This doesn’t bode well for your chances at Stanford…If you’re not getting mail by now, you never will, and Stanford ONLY mails the applicants they want to accept.

What do you mean by now? I’m only a freshman.

^ Freshman? As in, high school freshman!? You definitely won’t get in then. I got my Stanford emails summer after kindergarten…

But in all seriousness, they’re getting emails because they received certain scores on the PSAT.

Sorry, I just enjoy ■■■■■■■■ tryhard freshies.

Why don’t you stop worrying about your friends, and focus on yourself? Enjoy life!

Because you’re still a freshman, I’d suspect that Stanford wouldn’t send you materials just yet. Perhaps they’ll send you information your junior or senior year. Of course, you’ll have to request the information at that particular time. However, if you immediately want hard-copy information pertaining to Stanford University and you’re not receiving any, I encourage you to call the admissions office or simply research online. I requested information at the end of my junior year and didn’t receive any until the winter of my senior year.

Hope this helps.

I heard there was some kind of box they checked on the test that said they wanted to receive mail from colleges but neither of them got good scores so I’m still wondering…

Thanks for the help Kisho3. :)

One thing you have to learn is that colleges–ESPECIALLY ones like Stanford–market themselves aggressively to increase the number of applications they get. The more they get, the more they can reject, and the higher they can rank on absurd ranking systems. It’s disgusting, I know, but it’s there.

Therefore, getting mail says nothing about how the college thinks of you, which is why I say just worry about yourself, and try not to fret so much over the college process. There are schools other than Stanford that might very well be better for you.

^^^Douglasgirl, it is advantageous for Stanford to get as many applications as possible. Additional applications make for a lower admit rate, which is one sign of a school’s prestige. And if an extra application is easily classified as a rejection, then said application will bring in additional revenue for very little additional cost.

In other words, it makes practical sense for Stanford (and any other university for that matter) to recruit applicants that stand no shot of getting in.

Thanks for all the advice and info guys. I really appreciate it
