Why don't more people donate blood?

^ Totes. Sports > Possibly saving the life of someone in need

I honestly think my blood would have some kind of health issue I’m ignoring that would make me an incompatible donor.

But otherwise, it’s just because blood drives don’t really exist where I live =/

I’m taking medication that will give babies birth defects if they give it to a pregnant lady.

I’m Eastern European… As much as i want to help save lives, they won’t take my blood :(

Strange that the hospitals can take your blood. Maybe it’s less well regulated. Or maybe they’re just not doing the surveys beforehand properly…

I’m not allowed to give blood either.

I donated once at my church but when it was offered at my school, I didn’t go because it was the last practice of volleyball season (As someone mentioned, it’s not a good idea to draw a lot of blood and play extenuating sports).

A lot of people are simply afraid of needles. Also, there’s not much public awareness about blood drives, I don’t think. I gave blood at my school last year (twice), but I had to have allergy shots for five years when I was younger, so I don’t even blink when I see a needle.

Sports and taking medications probably allow people to exclude themselves from giving blood, too, like everyone else has said. I have O+ blood, so I can give to almost anyone, I think.

My parents wouldn’t let me for a while. But then when I got old enough to not need their permission (recently)… they told me I had an iron deficiency. I’ll wait a coupld more months for the next big blood drive nearby and I’ll hopefully have fixed that problem by then.

Afraid of needles.

Oh, and I’m much too thin anyways: 5’8", 110 lbs.

I don’t care for shots. Doesn’t bother me at all.
The only problem is that I’m too thin/too light …
Sigh

^^Yeah I don’t technically weigh enough either, not by a long shot. But I go to a crummy school, and nothing is ever done correctly so I was able to sneak past the lady and stuff and give blood anyway.

Let me just tell everyone that doing so is a bad idea. Even though I ate like forty donuts and snack bags, I ended up ‘passing out’ like an hour later. It felt as though there was no blood left in my body… But, looking back, it really wasn’t that bad, and I’d probably do it again. I was really upset when people were telling me I couldn’t, though. Cause everyone else was and bragging ‘oh I saved three lives today.’ Just couldn’t let myself sit back and not give too.
