This conversation is getting really creepy.
“getting”??
if I was Hilary, my husbands position re:Rwanda, would have been more upsetting, than having a fling with an intern.
Ive also got to say, I really hate the word " bimbo".
How offensive & inaccurate.
Sounds like infidelity is cutting a little too close to home for someone.
This is a political alliance, in my view. She helped him be President; he will help her attempt to achieve the same. I bet she isn’t lonely either.
Not a marriage that would interest me, but she’s getting something out of it, as he did.
Presumably he’s an asset to her political ambitions.
It was creepy from the beginning. It is just weird to me all of the speculations about someone else’s marriage when we know so little beyond what we see on tv. Who knows what is really going on in anyone’s marriage behind close doors. Infidelity runs rampant, the Clintons were just unfortunate to have it on front page news.
This thread does touch the touchy issue about an older man getting involved with a younger woman.
Lewisky’s case is nothing when compared to the creepiness of Woody Allen, who turned his daughter into his wife.
These “powerful” men broke the taboos of a large difference in their age and of different ethnic groups also. (And why these females of these love interests are Asians who are much younger?! Facebook’s case is much more “normal” because they are at least of the similar age and from the same college also – so this is understandable.)
"Call it the Woody Allen Effect. When the venerable director scandalously left Mia Farrow for her adopted daughter, South Korean-born Soon-Yi Previn — 35 years his junior — he may as well have sent out a press release: Asian-girl fantasy trumps that of Hollywood royalty!
Not two years after they tied the knot, media baron Rupert Murdoch walked down the aisle with fresh-faced Wendi Deng — 17 days after finalizing his divorce from his second wife. Then, CBS head Leslie Moonves wed TV news anchor Julie Chen; Oscar winner Nicolas Cage married half-his-age third wife Alice Kim; billionaire George Soros coupled up with violinist Jennifer Chun; and producer Brian Grazer courted concert pianist Chau-Giang Thi Nguyen. Add the nuptials of investment magnate Bruce Wasserstein to fourth wife Angela Chao and the pending vows between venture capitalist Vivi Nevo and Chinese actress Ziyi Zhang, and we’ve got a curious cultural ripple."
Not sure what race has to do with it. I’m sure we could all find plenty of examples regardless of race.
“and I guess the French people would take a good politician who makes poor personal choices over a poor President who is squeaky clean.”
I would, too. I don’t really care what they do in their personal lives. I don’t understand why it’s even an issue.
The only time I care is when what they preach crap like family values - and then get caught with their hands in the cookie jar. And not because they cheated, I couldn’t care less about that - but because they are hypocrites.
If you recall “bimbo eruptions” were what Carville and others in his 92 campaign called them.
Have to disagree, mcat. This thread didn’t really touch on the May-September romances. It was about Hilary and Bill, who are close in age. I have to admit I find all this side discussion about “hot” presidents and rating them on a 1-10 scale, and “conquering” women to be really smarmy and quite insulting to women. I am not the least bit interested in reading or discussing that, and to be honest feel it has no place in this discussion.
Plenty of women stay with their cheating husbands for various reasons. I don’t understand the reason for this thread except to cast a negative light on Hillary since she is a political candidate.
This thread should be locked. It’s a thinly veiled political thread.
I agree that the huge age difference, rather than the race, is more an issue in modern day. It is no longer Thomas Jefferson’s day.
There is no huge age difference between the Clintons. Bringing it into the conversation is irrelevant, IMO. I agree that this thread is an main course of thinly veiled political discussion with a side of demeaning women. Blech. Double blech.
You keep editing and adding stuff to your posts, mcat, so its hard to make the responses clear. But bottom line, and I ask this respectfully, please drop the discussion that makes me want to wash my hands after I touch the keyboard. It feels really disrespectful to women.
Ok I’ve only read the last page or so and I’m not sure I want to read the rest of the posts… so I’ll just weigh in on how I’ve always viewed their relationship.
Marriage and partnership do not mean the same things to everyone. IMO, they seem to be very good political and personal partners even if they may not be the best “romantic” marriage partners. However, it seems to work for them. I agree with someone up thread that they might have something like an open marriage that isn’t politically prudent for them to be open about.
But honestly, they seem happy and I doubt very much that Hillary is just doing the whole “stand by your politician spouse” crap. There is a reason she is still there and it’s really none of our business. I know more than one couple who are married and happy but are not in any way romantically in love. It works for them and they even have happy, well-adjusted kids.
I didn’t refer to the French president. I don’t follow him. I was refer to comment about European are less Puritan than American. I think I’ve read recently there was a survey and the majority of French people find it acceptable for President to have affairs. My comment is toward Bill as a president but not Hillary. But you can’t treat Hillary and Bill separately. It’s a thing. I’m worried about another bimbo eruption.
I don’t know why race was brought up either.
This thread is a response to the Donald Trump thread which I think is also thinly political discussion.
One of our previous neighbors will never accept that. She firmly believes people in the Europe have been morally corrupted and she was deeply concerned Americans may become like them in the future.
The OP will need to clarify if this thread is “in response” to the Trump thread. I don’t personally think that, other than as potential examples of bad judgment and artifically blond hair.
