Wow, if he graduated from college almost 30 years ago, the loan amounts must be small compared to what many graduate with now:

I don’t understand why his debt would be all that debilitating. In the 1974-75 time period total COA was approximately 4-5k for a private college. I went to a private school at a slightly later time period and easily pieced it together using loans and outside work and no parental help. I call BS on his story and especially on the very bad financial advice.
