Why I spend so much time here or

Why I love CC… and it has nothing to do with colleges!

Yesterday I at home to sparkling clean windows. My husband and son had washed them with a concoction found on CC.
I love my new car! I finally bought one, endorsed by CC posters!
I also heard about a mascara that changed my life, a way to get rid of that dog smell in my house and promising hotel in London.
My new favorite Moroccan Chicken recipe came from CC as did a couple of new downloads to my Ipod.
I figured out what to get my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary and that I better suggest to my husband to get a new bicycle seat!
I have found my daily visits to be valuable, informative, inspiring, insightful, tender, hilarious, even infuriating (nope, no more election and politics threads for me!) But mostly I find the posts to be generous, so many cool people willing to share their wisdom, expertise and experiences.
My husband and sons roll their eyes when I start a sentence with “There was this thread on College Confidential…” but we all have benefitted from the sage advice dispensed here.
How about you?

Same here…but what was the mascara that changed your life? I’m in need of an upgrade…

I am breathing better than I have in years thanks to the “neti pot” thread.
I love the dressing young thread.
I usually get at least one good laugh every day and who can’t use that?
I find that many others have the same/similar questions/problems/issues as I do.
I enjoy reading a lot of different views/perspectives on things.

I joined in Jan 2009. In June of that year I was very upset about something which happened at D’s school. I posted and received so much good advice and support, that I was hooked!

Oh I always save the Cafe for the end of my <usually daily=“”> visits to CC. That’s where the real fun is. (And re: mascara, I’ve tried everything under the sun. I always come back to Estee Lauder More Than Mascara. You can pick up trial sizes on eBay for about $3.)</usually>

People buy mascara on ebay? How do you know it hasn’t been used? The sample sizes don’t usually come with any type of seal, do they?

I diagnosed my daughters long term and very scary illness from a CC thread. Best thing that ever happened to me.

I love the Parents Cafe. If I’m ever in the market for granite countertops, I will ask here.

I stick with Lancome Defincils dark brown mascara.

Laketime, please share how your mascara has changed your life–sounds like it could be a great college essay…

Could you share the glass cleaning concoction again?

I’ve had so many laughs from CC! One of these days I’ll have to move on–but not for a while!

There are more intelligent and wise people here on CC than everywhere else that I know of.

I am addicted to a smoothie recipe someone shared on CC last year:

1 frozen banana

1 cup light vanilla soy milk

2 T. cocoa power

D1 and I have them every day for breakfast.

Great travel tips.
Smart folks who are really nice and helpful (a rare thing to find!)
More clothes than I need (is that a benefit? uh oh…ordered a pair of cropped pants from Eddie Bauer just last week…)
Inspiration to lose weight and keep fit - with some cool recipes along the way.
Heartbreaking stories that make you want to reach out to help - and give you perspective when you’re cranky.
Good gossip…loved the Hillary and Michelle threads.
Great book and movie recommendations (for the most part).
I could go on…this is a very cool place to get online help and support!
College? That’s old news for me at least…there’s much more to talk about here…

I second the travel tips! I put together a great 4 days in NYC with the help of CC folk.

Where else but in the cafe can you read travel tips, engross yourself in a book club discussion, follow inspirational or thought provoking threads and get recommendations for the next item to purchase (vacuum cleaner in my case!)

And learn how to get rid of an ant infestation in 24 hours!

Lake42ks, that’s exactly what I was going to write. And huge kudos to our moderators for keeping the forum spam and profanity-free.

I learned to make airline reservations on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
I cured my frozen shoulder with trigger point massage.
That great sardine recipe with the capers, lemon, mayo.
I have read some great books, too many to mention, on others’ recommendations here.

Great thread.
Just this evening I noticed ants in the dog’s food bowl. DH had placed it outside instead of inside. We haven’t had ants on our patio in years because we have an exterminator that sprays every other month. When I told DH, he asked me if I was going to call the exterminator and I said, no, I wanted to check out the Ants thread on cc that I noticed the other day!!!
Other things I got from cc: must sees for teens in NYC, best mascaras, use firefox instead of internet explorer, how to block ads online, brunch ideas, and lots more!

Best places in Boston to view the 4th of July fireworks, a great artichoke and sundried tomato chicken recipe, weirdness of hyperlinks in a resume, best online cake delivery places, lots of makeup tips for the makeup challenged, cutest wedge shoes ever… Biggest achievement: lost 25 lb with the help of my diet/exercise/health CC support group!

A great place to go to find a little sanity and support in a life filled with teenagers. 'Nuff said.

Rock on boiledegg.

Re: the mascara–lots of health and beauty stuff sold on eBay, all new. I’d look at how many listings the seller has had. It should be lots. These are leftovers from the giveaways department stores have.

And just to add to the fun, one of my most appreciated threads on CC was about two weeks into DS#1’s freshman year of college when he contracted the worst tummy bug of his life. It was a very rough day or two for me, knowing my baby boy was miserable and I couldn’t help. Just lots of comfort and hand-holding from the CCers, along with suggestions to call someone at the school to check on him–I was mostly worried because it was so close to the beginning of school and he didn’t have any friends close enough to actually take care of/fret over him.

Plus the one where I solicited advice about how to keep my newly-adopted lab mix from hanging out on top of my car.
