Why is a Canadian education so much cheaper?

Compare top tier public/private schools in USA with top tier schools in Canada. I doubt the educational experience commands a differences of >$30,000. So why are American universities so expensive?

They’re worth it. USA is the leading country in higher education, no doubt about that!!

Canadian education is even cheaper for citizens…

Canadian schools are government subsidized. Some Canadian schools are of doubtless quality, but some American schools are unmatched.

The reason that it is “cheaper” is because it is very socialist and Canadians are forced to pay MUCH higher taxes and the government then redistributes the money to the university.

I think one reason Candian schools are cheaper is that schools there, following the U.K mode, don’t have anything close to the athletic budgets that even small American colleges have.

Athletic budgets don’t make that much difference. The big ones also bring in lots of revenue and the small ones don’t spend that much–maybe a few percent of the total budget. The UWis spends $75 Million on athletics and the school budget is around $2 Billion. But athletic revenue is over $75 million.
