That’s more then a car costs and if you only have like 8 classes how come it costs so much to go to college? I think I want to be a college teacher now cause if you times that by all the people that go there that’s like millions.

What? Are you really assuming college professors make millions of dollars?

No. Kollegekid is a ridiculous ■■■■■.

My car cost more than $40k tho

lol

The professor isn’t paid that way…not at all.

The school takes most of the money to use for running the campus. The profs’ salaries are often just ok. A few are high, but that’s after they’ve reached full prof status or have endowed chairs.

But then what do they do with all the money if its not for the teachers?

you’re a college kid…surely you can research this yourself?

Actually he is a kollege kid.

What do you mean “what do they do with the money?”

Do you have any idea how much it costs to run a university? The administrative staff at a university is huge, just for starters. Buildings and grounds require maintenance, electricity, water, heating/cooling, gas…that alone runs up a VERY large bill every year. Programs need to be kept up to date. Science labs need to replace aging equipment, new equipment needs to be added to reflect newer methods and such. You’re looking at a system that requires many millions of dollars annually in operating costs.

That said, I do think that something needs to be done about the consistently rising tuition costs…at least in public universities.

I work at a grad school, and I tell prospective students that people pay more for a car than our tuition costs … but what they gain from our program will never wear out, the way a car will. Although I will say that while this is a highly-respected grad school, tuition is not $40k per year. If it was, maybe we could afford more staff (or a higher salary for yours truly …).
A college costs A LOT of money to run!!

I dunno. Maybe your program is different from my graduate-school experience, but I’ve forgotten most everything I learned in graduate school.

I remember some stuff about research methods, but I learned all that stuff in 1986, and nobody does research in 2013 the way we did research before the web.
